Former US President Barack Obama stated in a recent interview that the possibility of extraterrestrial life exists, but stressed that he himself has not seen evidence of the presence of aliens on Earth.
"They're true, but I haven't seen them ," Obama said.
Asked by podcaster Brian Tyler Cohen about the existence of extraterrestrial beings, Obama said that aliens were not being held at Area 51, the Air Force base in Nevada.
He clarified that he has no information about aliens being held in Area 51 and ruled out the existence of a secret base that would have been kept secret even during his presidency.
"There is no underground structure, unless there is this big conspiracy and they hid it from the president of the United States," Mr. Obama said.
After backlash on social media, Obama clarified in an Instagram post that the universe is so vast that the probability of life on other planets increases. However, he stressed that the distances between solar systems make it highly unlikely that Earth has been visited by aliens. During his time in office, he has not come across evidence of extraterrestrial contact.
For years, the theory has been circulating that the US government is hiding aliens at Area 51, an Air Force base in Nevada. In 2019, about 1.5 million people registered on social media for a symbolic initiative to enter the area. The event did not cause serious incidents and ended with a few arrests, while the activity turned into a music festival.
