The chairman of the Committee for Foreign Affairs of the Assembly of Ukraine, Oleksandr Merezhko, says that he is shocked by the threats of the Serbian president, Aleksandër Vucic, regarding the Kosovo issue.
He said that it is not up to the Serbian president to tell Ukraine what to do with Kosovo, N1 newspaper writes.
"I am shocked by the completely unacceptable, undiplomatic way in which the president of Serbia presented his threats because what we have are absolutely unacceptable threats, even blackmail. This is how I perceive his statement about us.
Other countries have already recognized Kosovo as an independent state, including our closest allies. I am sure it is our sovereign right to decide whether we recognize him or not. And it is not up to Mr. Vucic to teach us or dictate to us what to do or threaten us.
This is absolutely shocking and unacceptable. Regarding recognition, according to our Constitution, this is the prerogative of our President, because the President is responsible for leading foreign policy, including recognition issues," he said.
