The list of 52 arrest warrants, which SPAK and the Italian Antimafia issued with great fanfare on May 21, includes not only ordinary traffickers, but an entire system that links crime with politics and the state. But when it came time to catch them, the caps had flown. And to cover up the absences, a few deputies, a few drivers, a few "mice who had turned into tigers only on Instagram" were arrested.
Operation "Bridge" was called international, but in reality it was defeated by "Operation Vote", which on May 11 guaranteed the fourth mandate of the Sultan of Surrel. And in this victory, we all know that crime has had an active role, not only as a financier, but as a manager of the electoral terrain. Edi Rama did not win over the opposition, but over the silence that bought criminality a place in the ballot box.
The bosses are not in the cell. They are in an unknown direction, in a protected direction, in a predetermined direction. And justice? It was there, at the press conference, where our prosecutors trembled in front of the Italians, they could not pronounce names, and the words stuck in their throats like bills in the administrative courts.
Not from shame, because that feeling has long since disappeared, but from the tension that comes when you have to present the untruth as fact and failure as success.
The operation that was supposed to be a surgical strike, became a Surrel butcher's slog, without sterile gloves, because Ilir Beqja got them in some sterilization tender. SPAK put its heart on the table, but the table was covered with files that ended up in the closet. And when the moment came to say "we have arrested the leaders", the birds had flown.
In Albania, it is no longer surprising that the names of criminals are better known by the public than the prosecution. They are in resorts, on podiums, in studios, on voting lists, on strategic investment lists. They are names that appear like swallows, whenever Edi Rama ensures warm political weather.
But this operation, despite its shortcomings, is not to be ignored. Because it was pure international pressure, to break the invisible bridges of the mafia with the state, to stop the flow of information in corridors that are more than tunnels, wells where heads are hidden.
Foreign services do not eat at Babloku's manger. And that is why sometimes, like now, disturbing operations occur. But as long as information leaks and decisions are made with political permission, the strong will always be the first to go, not to detention, but to exit the country.
