When a proposal is offered without the most important party at the table...
In a move orchestrated by US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, a peace plan for Gaza has been announced with great fanfare, called by the authors themselves as "the ultimate proposal for resolving the conflict."
Seemingly a historic 20-point offer, but essentially a formula filled with diplomatic emptiness, geopolitical arrogance, and total ignorance of the reality on the ground.
Trump, in his familiar style of political marketing, appointed himself as the head of an international peace board that will manage the transition of Gaza from a devastated area to an international protectorate.
Netanyahu, on the other hand, appears willing to compromise, but only on the basis of Israel's conditions: the return of hostages, the disarmament of Hamas, and the guarantee that no Palestinian political structure will be able to challenge Israeli dominance.
So, peace yes, but only as an extension of military victory and the right of the strongest.
The problem lies not only in the content, which is questionable and only applicable in theory, but in the blatant lack of Palestinian participation in its drafting.
How can one claim a solution to a conflict when an agreement is imposed on one party from above, without dialogue, without guarantees, and without respect for the bloody past that this relationship contains?
It is not the first time that a peace plan treats the Palestinian people as a technical obstacle that must be neutralized, not as a political entity demanding the right to self-determination.
This initiative comes in a global context where diplomacy is increasingly a tool for PR and reestablishing influence, rather than an honest instrument for long-term solutions.
From Ukraine to the Middle East, there is an attempt to recycle old political figures as saviors of crises that have actually been deepened by them.
The “make a deal” approach that Trump promotes is fundamentally inappropriate for a conflict that demands historical justice, not just an end to violence.
This plan is another show where Israel seeks to legitimize dominance, while the US seeks to regain control over a region that is increasingly slipping out of its hands.
In this context, the plan is neither peace nor compromise; it is an imposed memorandum that invites the Palestinians to sign their capitulation across a table to which they are not invited.
The failure of this plan is almost predictable, not because peace is not possible, but because it cannot be built on diplomatic lies, nor on the shamelessness of leaders who use tragedies to restore their personal power.
Meanwhile, the people of Gaza remain defenseless, isolated, and increasingly distant from any scheme that claims to offer them a "solution."
This is not the end of a conflict, but the beginning of a new cycle of disappointments. And when diplomacy becomes theater, peace is the first victim./ Pamphlet
