Yesterday's arrest is good news for another reason: self-proclaimed untouchable, with the insidious language with which he threatened justice and its protagonists, the handcuffing of Ilir Meta has broken a myth and opened a path...
As if he were an ordinary criminal, dragged from the car where he was trying to hold fast, by the special police force, yesterday Ilir Meta gave the last political and personal spectacle. Under accusations of money laundering, failure to declare assets and corruption, he has been put behind bars, without giving him the opportunity to get in front of the microphones of the press conference he had warned. His wife and political companion until a few months ago, is being investigated in a free state.
Without entering into the discussion of the method of arrest and the spectacle that this power is dying to give, Ilir Meta got what he deserved and should have received many years ago. Even though the ex-President, ex-Prime Minister, ex-Speaker of the Parliament, that is, among the few who has passed all levels of power, he ended up in handcuffs as an ordinary criminal.
Ilir Meta deserved such an end. Jail now, is overdue for him.
For the sake of the power he abused every day he had it, for the sake of the famous block of 700,000 euros, the stolen gold and the villas his children enjoy in London, the gold mines in Africa and the connections with criminals that he and his wife have used to maintain power, Ilir Meta deserves prison.
For the sake of the service to the Albanians that he never gave, even though he is one of the most powerful people in the country, as one of the main contributors to the destruction of Albania, Ilir Meta deserves prison. Even this arrest was delayed. It should have happened a long time ago.
How Ilir Meta will be punished does not matter at all. His arrest yesterday is good news for another reason: self-proclaimed untouchable, with the insidious language with which he threatened justice and its protagonists, the handcuffing of Ilir Meta has broken a myth and opened a path.
He broke the myth of inviolability and opened the path for Edi Rama to follow. There is no denying the fact that the arrest of Ilir Meta had a spectacle that is very suitable for the propaganda of Edi Rama's government. But if he was dragged into the police car, there was an empty place behind him that must be filled by the conductor of the final destruction of Albania. After his friends have fallen one by one, after the voluminous files that are expected to be opened for the people closest to him, it is Rama's turn. And when that day comes, there will be no spectacle that can equal the enthusiasm of a people tired to the point of exhaustion, but with the hope that one day will come and justice will be served./ Pamphlet
