SPAK's stale double standard: why was Ilir Beqja released?
Ilir Beqja and Arben Ahmetaj /

Arben Ahmetaj was investigated for government procedures that he had not signed at all, but SPAK demanded a prison sentence, as well as seized his and his ex-wife's assets...

Public opinion, but also every lawyer, in the country or abroad, seeing the charges that the former Minister of Health Ilir Beqja was facing, expected that he would be arrested. This is because he was being investigated for serious charges, such as passive corruption, inequality in tenders and misuse of duties, which together carry double-digit sentences. In addition, the person in question is a recidivist, with legal precedents, because he had problems with the law in the past.

When the Constitutional Court removed the mandate of the deputy, after he benefited from public tenders while he was a member of the Parliament. At the same time, he was until today the head of a very important government agency at the rank of minister.

So he had all the prerogatives to spoil the evidence, to put pressure to spoil the investigation, or to use any machinations so that the investigation against him developed as he wanted.

And in reality, even today that Beqaj has left the position of head of the State Agency for Strategic Programming and Aid Coordination, he is still an important person.

This is because everyone knows that Beqaj is a person close to Edi Rama, and there is no possibility for the former minister to cooperate with the justice system to deepen the investigation regarding PPPs in Health. Which were ideas, projects and were pushed forward by Edi Rama since he came to power in 2013. It is Edi Rama who has paid them even in difficult periods for the budget such as the earthquake and the pandemic, deepening the external debt of the country.

While Sali Berisha was treated with the measure of mandatory appearance, because, as said, he took advantage of his age, Ilir Beqaj has no reason or incentive to benefit from the mercy of SPAK prosecutors, since the accusation that weighs on him is very serious.

It is enough to compare this with the case of Arben Ahmetaj, who was investigated for government procedures that he had not signed at all, but nevertheless SPAK requested a prison arrest, as well as seized his and his ex-wife's assets.

Arben Ahmetaj was not in office in the government since 2021, and he did not even have any political protection from the Prime Minister, who publicly declared at the SP Congress that he will "bring any of mine to SPAK." Meanwhile, the media close to the government have attacked Ahmetaj since Edi Rama had distanced himself politically and physically from him.

This double standard, when the "sword of Demokleus" is used for people who do not honor Babloku and "birch with feathers" for Edi Rama's confidants, does nothing else, it only increases doubts and lowers confidence in the new justice system.

In the event that it would be as Rama says: that SPAK does not see left and right, but straight, then we would see not only Ilir Beqaj, but also Olta Xhaçka, or others in jail.

People are not only eager to see the powerful go to the threshold of the 'seven windows' as Babloku says, but they want to see Justice following the same line for those suspected of corruption.

Freeze assets, control, isolation and trial as quickly and publicly as possible.

In the case of Beqaj, it seems that the premise has been created for people to perceive that those who have played with Bablok can be investigated, but in the sun, the others, there in the dungeons... This is the double standard, even stale. / Pamphlet
