Edi Rama's theater on stone slabs

Edi Rama's theater on stone slabs

In the Albania of 2025, justice is threatened with an iron box, while abuses involving millions pass unnoticed, because propaganda carries more weight than the law...

If an Albanian tragicomedy were written for the year 2025, the first scene would open with a prime minister calling for justice from the 'heights' of his morality, while violating every principle of the separation of powers.

And in the background, a container placed on stone slabs in Theth. This is the object of the clash between the Prime Minister of the Republic and the Shkodra Prosecutor's Office. That's all it took to ignite a new political fire: an iron box in a protected area and a cold refusal from a prosecutor.

Edi Rama, who often acts as the chief prosecutor, chief judge and chief cameraman of Albania, decided to take the stage to bring down the next “environmental crime”. Not some concession worth tens of millions. Not an incinerator with political aromas. But a container. And for this, he threatened, accused and warned the prosecutor Elsa Gjeli, forgetting that the Constitution is not a drawing sketch on the wall of the Prime Minister's Office.

But let's not be naive. This has nothing to do with Edi Rama's unrestrained love for nature. Nor for the picturesque village of Theth. This is another battle for institutional dominance. Another act in the long theater where the script is the same: a blow to anyone who dares to have an independent opinion.

The Shkodra Prosecutor's Office said that construction without foundations, on slabs, does not constitute a criminal offense under the law. But in concrete Albania, legal foundations do not matter, only the concrete of orders from above.

And here comes Gonzato, the European Union ambassador, with the voice of reason that sounds like a whistle in an empty train station: “Stop the pressure on justice.”

But who listens to the ambassador in a country where justice must be on standby for any status of Rama?

Instead of punishing mafia concessions, we demolish containers. Instead of stopping the pollution of the Vjosa River with oil, we make videos in Theth. Instead of investigating corruption, we demand the head of a prosecutor. And all this, wrapped in the banner of "environmental morality", like a plastic tree in the middle of a crippled forest.

In this country, containers are more dangerous than the concrete oligarchy. And if justice cannot demolish an iron box with three planks, then the prime minister will demolish it himself, along with any illusion of the separation of powers. This is Albania 2025: a country where concrete rises above the law and arrogance above the foundations of the Republic./ Pamphlet
