Budget 2026, Rama: 1.7 billion euros for pensions alone

Prime Minister Edi Rama, from administrative unit 2 in Tirana, has started hearings with citizens on the 2026 draft budget. Although the hearing was for the Municipality of Tirana, Rama took the opportunity to talk about the Government's budget, which is being discussed article by article in parliamentary committees.

The Head of Government said that financing for pensioners occupies the main space in the draft budget with 1.7 billion euros set aside.

"In a way, it is an exercise that we do as a result of a situation that you know very well and which is a situation somewhat imposed by circumstances that do not depend on us.

It is imperative that everyone do what is necessary within their capabilities and positions so that things in the municipality of Tirana go as smoothly as possible.

I am glad that we have the opportunity today to talk about the Tirana budget and to take advantage of the opportunity to talk about the national budget. We have finally decided what we have wanted to do for a long time, but it took us some time to be able to do it, the increase in real support for pensioners, which will actually take up the main part in financing the state in this mandate.

"The extra support for the pressures will amount to 1.7 billion euros, which are divided into 4 years, are determined in the medium-term budget and are part of what will enable us to achieve the announced objective, where we want to bring the average pension to the full urban pension category and the minimum pension to the rural pension category," said Rama.
