
The month of August recorded a record in foreign currency deposits in Albanian banks, as they reached a total value of 7.1 billion euros. According to the Bank of Albania, the stock of savings in euros increased by 4.2% in this period of the year, from 6.8 billion euros in July.
Inflows of immigrants, income from tourism, but also benefits from exchange rate fluctuations, increased foreign exchange flows in the domestic financial market, especially those in the common European currency.
On the contrary, savings in local currency have followed the shrinking trend. At the end of August, the stock of ALL deposits decreased to ALL 540 billion, with a decrease of 0.9% compared to the same period a year ago, or ALL 5 billion less.
Despite this decline, there are many citizens who prefer to keep their savings in Lek.
Focusing on businesses, during the second quarter there was a stronger improvement in their deposits compared to those of individuals, thus reflecting the good state of liquidity and in general the improvement of their financial situation./A2
