Foreign currencies have started the week with growth. Euro, the main currency circulating in Albania, is exchanged at 110.6 ALL according to the official exchange rate.
It has been rising progressively since the first week of August, gaining more than 7 points within 20 days.
These gained points of the euro in the local market have also affected other currencies. Thus, the value of the American dollar has increased to 102.5 ALL, the pound to 129 ALL and the Swiss franc to 115.7 ALL.
The weakening of the lek in this period is unusual, since throughout the month of August the flow of foreign currency has been high due to the presence of tourists, which mathematically would contribute to their devaluation.
However, the interventions of the Central Bank in the foreign exchange market are believed to be the main factor that influenced the increase in the exchange rate.
The latter officially decided to intervene in the market, increasing the planned amount of currency purchases for this year.
The decision shows that the estimated amount of purchases for the calendar year will be in the range between 220 and 300 million, or 80 to 140 million euros more than the initial planning.
We remind you that foreign currencies were devalued in historical records this year, hitting many businesses that make payments in euros or dollars.
