The governor of the Bank of Albania, Gent Sejko, received the representatives of the International Monetary Fund, headed by Mrs. Anke Weber where economic performance, financial stability and inflation were discussed. The purpose of the Mission's visit to Albania is to hold talks with the Albanian authorities within the framework of Article IV.
The governor has stated that the good economic performance has also been accompanied by a rapid drop in inflation, which is being monitored to return it to the target of 3% by 2025.
Referring to the latest data from INSTAT, the Albanian economy had a growth of 4% during the second half of the year. This increase is mainly attributed to the healthy financial balances of businesses and households, the stimulating financial environment, as well as the increase in income.
The focus of this meeting was the exchange rate, where IMF representatives suggested the Bank of Albania to continue following a free exchange rate, as it had a positive impact on reducing inflation.
The governor emphasized that the monetary policy followed by the Bank of Albania has had a positive impact on the preservation of the country's monetary and financial balances, where the gradual and careful normalization of the stance of the monetary policy has made it possible to reduce inflationary pressures.
