Despite the price crisis, Albanian institutions estimate that the economic performance will be positive. According to a report by the Bank of Albania, our economy is better positioned, leaving behind countries in the region such as Macedonia, Greece or Serbia.
Meanwhile, the government's projections for economic growth have also improved recently. According to the Bank of Albania, indirect data suggest faster economic growth in the following quarters.
The country's economy is expected to grow by an average of 3.9 percent until 2026, while inflation will fall to 3 percent by the end of this year. These are the optimistic forecasts of the government in the Medium-Term Budget Program 2024-2026.
Inflation reached 4.2% in July, approaching the Central Bank's target. This level turns out to be among the lowest in the region and a number of factors have contributed to it, including the strengthening of the lek against foreign currencies, mainly the euro. During this week, the currency exchange rate has stabilized and one euro is being exchanged for 104 lek.
Inflation slowed down in the second quarter in all countries of the region, influenced by lower energy and basic food prices. However, it remains above the banks' targets, encouraging the latter to stay on the upward trajectory of base rates.
The economic growth in the first months was mainly influenced by net exports and the recovery of private investments, but it is estimated that in the coming months the progress will accelerate influenced by tourism.
The region is predicted to have a better economic performance than Europe. The Eurozone economy shrank by 0.1% for the second quarter in a row, marking a technical recession in the first quarter of 2023. This panorama was very different within member states, where the region's contraction was mainly influenced by the weak performance of the German economy.
ECONOMIC GROWTH IN THE COUNTRIES OF THE REGION:
Albania 2.7%
Greece 2.1%
Macedonia 2.1%
