The advisor for the economy in DP, Dorian Teliti, spoke about the devaluation of the Euro currency and the strengthening of the Lek.
Teliti said that if there was an economic development, an increase in foreign investments, then the strengthening of the Lek could be justified. So he said that the government had the opportunity to intervene, but did not, as it chose to reduce the level of public debt and not to help citizens and businesses from economic losses.
"If we had a development of the economy, an increase in foreign investments, remittances, the strengthening of the value of the Lek could be justified. What happened? It is possible to justify with Euro income. The fact that we have a strengthening of the Lek, shows that the Albanian market has more Euros than Lek. The government could have helped lower the high amount of Euro coins, but it didn't.
The government could have thrown the collected taxes on the market to strengthen the euro. It is important to keep the foreign currency, the euro, in balance. The reason we are like this is that we do not have a clear analysis. What is said and what we know is the flow of money that comes from the informal market. This has come about because money from crime and drugs is dumped in Albania. There has always been a season of immigrants and it has decreased by 2-3 lek, but not by 15.
The Euro currency will increase by 2-3 ALL, as the immigrants will also leave, but we will no longer have the same exchange rate that we had. I predict that the exchange rate can go to 107-110, but not 120 lek as it was months ago. The only winner is the state coffers, which boasts that it has reduced the level of public debt. This has not come to the good credit of the management", said Teliti for "News 24".
