14th anniversary of January 21st and 5th anniversary of SPAK

Altin Dumani continues to investigate thefts on all four sides of the horizon of Albanian politics. To find and punish wherever the culprits behind them are found. But to investigate thefts and neglect murders means to administer justice "a la carte"...

These two dates are mutually exclusive. The first reminds us of the day when the state killed, destroyed evidence, and expelled investigators and prosecutors from the scene of the murders. The second reminds us of the date when Albania began a journey that today appears full of problems and challenges, but which has a balance and offers a premise for the future.

There is, however, another element that artificially holds these two dates together: that of the murder of Ziver Veizi and his friends, with that of the anniversary of the institution headed by Altin Dumani and others. It is a scandalous and shameful fact for the entire Albanian society, and especially for the new justice system, that the macabre state murder of January 21 continues to remain legally unpunished!

There is nothing unsaid about January 21. A decade and a half is a long time for accusations, counter-accusations, political debate, studio squabbles, parliamentary squabbles, and above all, it is more than enough time for justice to gather evidence and formulate charges against the perpetrators and orderers of the blood that was shed on January 21, 2011 at the doors of the country's prime minister's headquarters.

It has been written and spoken endlessly about those murders, we have returned and returned to the circumstances, the responsibilities, what the parties did and said on that fateful day or afterwards. We, the ordinary people of this country, have spoken and written more than the justice system, which in the most paradoxical way has thrown the file of January 21 in the trash. Before and after the anniversary of the creation of SPAK. So, at a time when justice was a feather that kept cool behind the back of politics, but also at this time when investigations of villas and corruption against politics and attacks on criminal groups broke out.

SPAK has had the courage to raise its hand on a number of politicians accused of having sinned with public funds. It has also hit politicians like Berisha and Meta, who were at the top of the state pyramid on January 21st when the servers disappeared and the chief prosecutor was cursed, for the same reasons along the way. SPAK has had the courage to accuse Sali Berisha and Ilir Meta of corruption, but when it came to additional evidence for January 21st, it threw it back as if it were a used and worthless garment.

Altin Dumani continues to investigate thefts on all four sides of the horizon of Albanian politics. To find and punish wherever the culprits behind them are found. But to investigate thefts and neglect murders means to do justice "a la carte", with a menu like in a restaurant, it means to be selective and it means to be afraid of that event, or even the other one that took 26 lives in Gerdec.

As we commemorate the 14th anniversary of the January 21 massacre and celebrate the 5th anniversary of SPAK, we Albanians who have paid in both respective forms for both these anniversaries are allowed to raise an old and new question: when will the state crime of January 21 be punished? When will this massacre that left four families without parents and heads of household take on a face and a name?

Altin Dumani is increasingly resembling Adriatik Llalla who appeared in front of the media and declared "get ready, there will be events". Well, he doesn't need to look any further than the Strasbourg Court's decision to find the procedural path he should follow in his investigations. Not to mention the mountain of evidence and circumstances that shed light on the event. Let him do this so that we are not convinced even more than we are convinced, that the crime of 14 years ago was so strong and frightening that it survived both the old justice system and this new one.

Without investigating and judging January 21, Albanian society and its ruling class will not find peace and balance. Meanwhile, SPAK will have a strong minus in its public and professional standing.
