Everyone with Trump, no one like Trump

We still don't have a leader "like Trump," even though everyone is now a Trump "fan."

On the day Donald Trump was sworn in as the 47th President of the United States, amid the excitement and the profound changes in the role that the United States will have in the world, every country reflects on the impact of the new US policy on its own country. Even the most important countries in Europe, which have been accustomed to being indifferent to the United States, are now more attentive than ever, because they are no longer competing only with the United States, but with the “Trump” phenomenon within their own countries. This is evident in Italy, Germany, France, Great Britain, where forces similar to the US President feel victorious.

This debate would be normal in Albania as well. But, unfortunately, here it is reversed. In Albania, no one debates what benefits or dangers the “new America” could have for Albanians in the Balkans, but only the personal fate of our politicians in the Trump era is discussed.

Most are convinced that Prime Minister Edi Rama has good relations with President Trump, because his (Trump's) daughter will be an "investor" in Albania, as if the billions he has himself weren't enough.

Sali Berisha thinks that Donald Trump will lift the sanctions imposed on him and his family for grand corruption, undermining democracy, and blackmailing the justice system. There is no argument for this, other than the fact that these sanctions were announced by President Biden and Secretary of State Blinken (who according to him are enemies of Trump, and Berisha, as their enemy, is a friend of Trump).

Fatmir Mediu thinks that Trump's arrival should influence the end of the "Gërdeci" case for one major reason: He and Trump are looking for each other's "colleagues", as he (Mediu) represents the Republican Party in Albania.

Lulzim Basha hopes that Trump will return the DP seal and logo, after Berisha took it away for "lack of vigilance" at the US embassy during the past year.

This Adriatik Lapaj has not yet said his word, because he took the microphone from Arlind Qorri in front of the Ministry of Interior.

Dashamir Shehi, so far, is clear that he does not expect anything from Trump's arrival and has not yet been called "anti-Americanism" for this statement.

And when you listen to each one separately, you get the idea that political leaders in Albania are trying to tell us what they can benefit from the arrival of President Trump, without first telling us what Trump needs them for. Trump's allies in the US are the billionaires of technology, Wall Street and Silicon Valley, while his political allies around the world are the populists, who challenge the political establishment and dictate policies that break all the existing rules of the game.

We still don't have a leader "like Trump," although now everyone is a Trump "fan." Trumpism is not a phenomenon that comes from classic political competition, but from the weight that the world's new billionaires, who have transformed the world with new technology, have created in society. It is not a power that comes from below, but a power that is dictated from above.

I understand that now everyone here has chosen “Trump”, but Trump is not looking at those who want help, but at his own kind — the “powerful” who control everything. We still do not have such, since our democracy is still living the “American dream” of the 20th century. With the criteria that Albanian politics has set for itself, from vetting, the connection of politics with crime, SPAK or the decriminalization law, here there is no longer a Trump, nor is there anyone who dares to resemble him in gestures, since he too would become a subject of SPAK, with that “biography”.

Therefore, the only hope for now from Trump's victory lies with those who want to undo SPAK and the Justice Reform, since it is challenging them just like Donald Trump in the US; and, on the other hand, with those who think that the future in politics belongs to billionaires who should take power. I don't believe they have time for four years for either one or the other. So, for now, let them applaud Trump, pretend to be with him. Even though no one looks like him.
