Gergely Karacsony is the mayor of Budapest, which is not only the capital of the country, but also the political, economic and demographic center of the country with more than 3 million inhabitants as a large municipality...
Ervin Salianji last night in Kukës was quite confident in himself, it can even be said that he did not hide his euphoria. Which came clearly from the success, according to him, of the meeting in an area that was important for the DP, as well as difficult for him. Salianji was supported by a political group and important figures in the territory of the DP structures. In fact, the main person who gave him support was the winner of the primaries within the DP in the last electoral process within the party.
An indicator with potential weight to be satisfied. Truth be told, Ervin Salianji has held good meetings in general in all the cities where he has held them, some of them have been quite good. Not only in participation, that is, in form, but also in the content of the discussions that have been given to the public. Which are rightly expected like scarce water by the public, thirsty for debate, voice, ideas and a real political alternative.
Ervin Salianji has reached a step, actually a milestone as Americans say, important in his political path that he has undertaken. In last night's discourse in Kukës, his speech was not poorly prepared, he gave a stance, a message, but also a very clear idea of how he sees the opposition's alternative to Edi Rama.
Ideas, which in simple words, as Salianji put it, are a model of the man of the moment in Europe - Peter Magyarit, who overthrew Victor Orban of Hungary.
Salianji said that he understood the Hungarian model as an alternative to uniting the entire opposition to bring it to the elections in the face of Edi Rama's majority.
The Kukës activity was a success, as it has been in other cities where Sali Berisha and his establishment have been alarmed. Exceptions were made in Elbasan and Durrës, which cannot be executed in Kukës. First of all, because these are areas with a pronounced demographic change, but also with other specificities of the community that anyone who knows the terrain knows that exceptions would bring a boomerang effect. Plus the fact that we are dealing with a public development, where everyone sees who is, and if there were someone at that meeting who is not from the DP, it is easy to find and make public.
Salianji has won a battle with Sali Berisha, after confronting him, mobilizing people within the DP now, but also earlier ones who have been sidelined, but he is in the middle of a war. Which, it has fallen to him to see to the end, unlike his predecessors, whom Mr. Salianji has no rivals even though he "introduced them".
Confronting Sali Berisha, beyond the blasphemous charge that this concept may have among fanatical fans, is Salijanj's real challenge. So far he has taken on this job, and according to developments, time is giving him more attributes. However, this is only one part, and a very difficult and important one, the biggest road is ahead.
Since he mentioned it himself, of course with a clear reason to have an effect, it was the mention of the Hungarian effect of Peter Magyar, the 45-year-old who defeated Victor Orban.
Ervin Salianji was euphoric about this too, and even gave a couple of ideas on how he could follow this model. In short, he said that he is ready; let's all unite against Edi Rama and win.
And this is precisely the PD 2.0 or PD+ that has not only not been realized so far, but the opportunities that have been created have been cut short, with Ervin Salanji himself being the protagonist.
There are many misunderstandings about the Hungarian model, at least in Albanian public opinion, mainly when they say that a right-winger won, an insider of Orban's party, etc. etc. It is true that Peter Magyar was an insider of Orban's FIDESZ, it is true that he managed to challenge the political system set up by the Hungarian prime minister, but it is equally true and even the greater part of the truth, that Magyar became leader after he managed to form an alliance with the entire opposition, first the Hungarian socialists and then the liberals. Magyar had a mission; to get the votes of as many Orban supporters as possible, but he would not come to power if he did not create the grand coalition.
Gergely Karacsony is the mayor of Budapest, which is not only the capital of the country, but also the political, economic, and demographic center of the country with more than 3 million inhabitants as a large municipality.
Karacsony is a center-left liberal leader who is an early challenger to Orban, even risking prison for holding Gay Pride in Budapest. Meanwhile, Magyar's alliance has been effective in the territory where he has elected people liked by the communities, even if they were not from his political environment.
To do this, Salianji or anyone else who seeks to bring an alternative model, needs to show the ability and capacity of alliances and inclusiveness. From Kukës he gave a strong message that aims to end the political conflict in Albania, a very important signal. In a way, this was also shown by the language of communication, but Salianji must prove this with deeds, starting from factors within the DP, within the opposition, within society and then in Albanian politics. So far, he has demonstrated the opposite.
