Rama's passion for foreign policy has always been both entertaining and a waste of time for responsible policymaking.
In yesterday's speech, he considered foreign policy a failure even without reform, and "entrusted" it to the deputies along with Albanian Television.
Rama added that "the ranks have been taken hostage.... and every time I go to that ministry, it seems like there is only the minister, the secretary and the guard."
But if you accept failure, the truth must be told to the end. If the diplomatic service has ever experienced any escalation and lack of meritocracy, it has been under the leadership of Edi Rama as Prime Minister and Foreign Minister.
Perhaps Rama has forgotten when he decided to direct foreign policy with his deputy, the "unknown and inexperienced genius of books", or how in recent years he has used the diplomatic service "as his pigeonhole", where he included and rewarded journalists, customs directors, former MPs, without any standard of meritocracy, or worse, without any connection to diplomacy.
Foreign policy, which after Bushati's leadership became the exclusive domain of the prime minister, was led and continues to be led by that ministry, by people without any political valence or public weight (both domestically and abroad).
As he realized that it was difficult to reform education, healthcare, the environment, public administration, agriculture, and even the little production, Rama himself took refuge in foreign policy.
There is a proven historical paradigm. Global disintegration begins when you are in power, exhausted by any desire to contribute to domestic development.
Proactivity in foreign affairs serves as a kind of emigration from monotony and lack of interest in domestic troubles.

Rama admitted yesterday that "our international brand has failed, even though no one in that room thought otherwise."
His legacy should be accompanied by the lesson that: even in foreign policy, what leaders choose to do at home matters more than what they choose to do abroad.
