Ismail Kadare is "sui generis" and beyond any cultural policy in Albania, his fate no longer depends only on us, the Albanian reader is a religion in the big circle.
When I read the latest news that Ismail Kadare will be buried in Tufi, something happened inside me.
Chance has probably hit us again and found us unprepared.
Kadare is a man like the rest of us but you find that the rest of us are not, an unparalleled contributor to his country and the universal culture that the rest of us are not and he is going there among many mortal personalities or ordinary people, none like him.
Kadareja, the one who gave Europe and the world an Albania full of wisdom and greatness, with counts and barons, with an old language, the monk John its guardian, with wars and great efforts in defense of civilization and civilization, with famous ladies and personalities, that's how he included the cities and continents from Gjirokastra to Paris, from the Gobi Desert to Moscow, from Skanderbeg's Kruja to the Istanbul of the sultans, from Tirana to Beijing, from Pristina to Washington, from Athens to Rome, in his letters, going down deep in Aeschylian times and going up to those of Stalin, Khrushchev, Mao Zedong, Enver Hoxha, Clinton, Mitterrani, Koli, Rugova and many others did not deserve such modesty, even temporary, from his people.
The last road that the writer will describe, a little out of the center, resembles a road opened by fleeing nomads, leaving behind a mess, dust and dirt.
We will look in the cameras of the world at least ungrateful, as if we deserved it ourselves!
Albania has and should have more opportunities than that.
Civilized nations respecting their elites have valued progress and national pride. What is national pride? The deeds and deeds of a handful of people over the centuries for their country and people or for humanity in general.
Separating them is not discrimination for others but gratitude that others show for them.
European countries have many of them "Pantheon" where writers, warriors, prominent politicians are placed! France especially and others too!
They are points of pilgrimage, reference and reflection, why not cultural tourism.
We also have the experience of being left without a grave or in a refrigerator. Unfortunately, we have not made any effort at least for our renaissance, state builders or warriors. Maybe seeing what compromises are made better than the "Pantheon" would be trivialized beyond measure where every government, every politician, every mayor or businessman would do their own thing and maybe a friend would always be found to introduce people to the "Pantheon" so how long there would be no one left for the public cemetery! But for years we have accepted that Ismail Kadare is "sui generis" and beyond any cultural policy in Albania, his fate no longer depends only on us, the Albanian reader is a part of the big circle.
More than honoring Kadare, we honor ourselves if we give him the respect he deserves.
"His glory needs nothing and ours is for him", the French wrote about Moliere! It is valid, it is also valid for us and Kadare! I don't want to do politics on a day like this, but the Albanian government should immediately announce an international competition for a museum ensemble dedicated to Ismail Kadare where his grave will be. Tufina should be temporary, as short as possible, not a temporary one that lasts a lifetime.
It is not easy that in Tirana there are two flower gardens, one before Rogner and one after the Prime Minister, although in Vlora, the Father of our state, Ismail Qemali, has his last residence in a flower garden, separated as he should be.
Another solution can be realized on a hill near the Lake Park because there is no more land in the city for anything but buildings! Kadare has always honored us, has given us a lot even, language, culture, identity, pride and patriotism, let's give it two meters and be worthy! Mevlan Shanaj said after Skanderbeg the biggest escape was this, perhaps he has defined the truth. To this truth, the honor it deserves, without a doubt!!!
