The stages that Berisha fears: the reasons for the toxic environment in the DP

Sali Berisha, after these two major defeats, namely the failure to lift US sanctions and the fatal defeat in the elections, has a path with several stages that lead him towards his final political demise.

Raising voices and sticking out tongues from Sali Berisha's entourage towards anyone who raises questions about the doctor's future is nothing new.

It has happened since the "ancient times" of 1992, when anyone who spoke about changes or appointments, other than those made by Sali Berisha, was lynched.

The daily insults that occur live on TV or on social media are nothing more than a "civilization" of a community that has no other way to keep away any voice, any career, or any new movement within the opposition.

But now it seems too late to hold on, a development that has just started the path of no return. It is a political process that of course did not start on May 11. But it was firmly sealed there, and the master of the work himself knows this better than anyone else, who spent endless energy, not to create a leadership team of the DP that would be the political future of the country, but to influence what very few hoped would happen.

That is, getting out of the freeze that the Americans put him in in 2021, through an unprecedented lobbying campaign, where a huge amount was spent: 6 million USD. The largest amount ever spent on political "plastic surgery" in the history of Albania.

An operation that failed, since the entire purpose of this operation, with La Civita at the head of the campaign, had two goals: first, to ease Berisha's sanctions in the US, which there was no talk of lifting, but also to give Sali Berisha political legitimacy on May 11, so that he could at least be the "God" of the Albanian opposition, that is, of the entire community that does not want to be with Edi Rama.

On May 11, Sali Berisha was not only not elected as the "Lord of the Opposition" but was punished by opposition voters, either by voting against, by voting differently, or by not participating in the elections.

Elections are a process where, however unfair they may be, they are nevertheless a manifestation of measuring political support. So far, they are the only legitimate process of political functioning in Western societies.

Sali Berisha, after these two major defeats, namely the failure to lift sanctions in the US and the fatal defeat in the elections, where his opponent is very close to the qualified majority, has a path with several stages that lead him towards the final political sunset, on a much less glorious path.

On this irreversible path, a kind of Rubicon, which Berisha has actually crossed several times, overthrowing every kind of rule and exception to it, there are several stages.

The first and most difficult stage is the initiation of the criminal process. The weight of which will be dramatic for the further erosion of the consensus that remains among some militants. Who, for the most part, starting from those who wanted to make a career in the DP, in 2021, saw the doctor as an opportunity, as a springboard. In other words, most of the supporters who joined you in the "civil war" within the DP, did not do so because they adored or liked you.

But because they considered it a political instrument. And as such, almost everyone who represented or wanted to represent the opposition justified it. "Mr. Berisha is the only opportunity to unite the opposition."

This did not happen because the opposition not only did not unite, but disintegrated further, and on the other hand, the indictment against the leader of the Democratic Party became official. He will begin the ordeal of a long and tedious criminal process.

The next stage is the local by-elections in several municipalities of the country. Where there will be a "small test" of political development, of the emergence of protagonism by the DP structures, which this time will have to fight for themselves, making the right alliances, also with other factors to win.

The next stage will be the general local elections of 2027, where in all likelihood all those people who Berisha excluded from the lists on May 11 will appear on the field, and they will become wanted by all factors, starting with the new parties, as they have popularity. Exactly that factor that Sali Berisha and his close group lack.

The year 2027 will be the stage that will most likely give us a clue to the political orientation of the new opposition. Of course, there could be as many unexpected developments along the way, whether internal or external.

But Sali Berisha no longer has the opportunity to benefit from "technological accidents" along the way, as everyone knows that there is no more time to build an alternative position. To compete to govern the country.

Of course, having important financial, media and political tools at his disposal, Berisha will use them to maintain the status quo, but these tools cannot stop a process that has just begun and has its irreversible stages!
