Berisha calls "union" when everyone joins him. He considers any other form of unity to be division.
It is a positive thing that some opposition actors are talking about the need for its unification. This is actually the essence of the debate within the opposition, as it is the main reason why it was crushed like never before in these elections. The crushing defeat was caused by the fact that they were not united, but competed with five separate slogans.
Berisha himself admitted today that the reason for the loss is the division, and therefore declared that he agrees to unification.
But the problem begins right here. Berisha and the rest of the opposition have completely different meanings for the word "unity."
Berisha calls "union" when everyone joins him. He considers any other form of unity to be division.
On the other hand, Agron Shehaj has proposed that the opposition unite around another figure, who is not politically exhausted. He did not say that it should not be a political figure, but only that it should not be exhausted. So, more or less the opposite of Berisha.
This is why Berisha has strongly opposed this proposal.
Berisha is ready to do everything to get every opposition faction to join his party, but only around a candidate he himself appoints. Meanwhile, the rest of the opposition wants exactly the opposite: to break away from Berisha's image.
An entire opposition united behind Berisha is certain to receive even fewer votes than today. As the merger with the former LSI showed: both together became smaller. The reason? Berisha and Meta. If other parties are added to this stagnant pool, it will only become smaller.
The only real possibility for growth lies with the opposition outside of Berisha — if it unites and forces the DP to join it without his figure. But this is not happening. The de-Berishaization of the DP is a process that will not happen again. Not even after his death. The only thing that can arise in the opposition is a new opposition, unrelated to Berisha.
For this reason, unification with Berisha cannot happen, as he wants you either in line behind him, or in front of him. Therefore, the debate about the "chances of unification" is a waste of time.
