Thank you Edi Rama!

Thank you Edi Rama!
Rama, Vucic, Zaev - Architects of the Open Balkans

Since this idea started as a mini-Schengen, with its genesis in Belgrade and strongly supported by Alex Soros, Rama became its main spokesperson. It is not for nothing that Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, who today apparently feels abandoned, publicly congratulated Rama that, "without his determination and persistence, the "Open Balkans" would be impossible"...

Edi Rama should be thanked for closing the Open Balkans, with the same humility that we greet those who have done us a good thing, even though they have lied to us for a long time. In this decision of the Prime Minister, above all, it is important to appreciate the act, without getting caught up in the words.

None of his arguments as to why this initiative came to an end hold weight. Neither that she had achieved her goal nor the other that the summit of the Berlin process will be held in Tirana. If we deal with what has been said, Edi would be compared today with that famous character of the former Tirana, who sold the clock tower to a fool.

Since this idea started as a mini-Schengen, with its genesis in Belgrade and strongly supported by Alex Soros, Rama became its main spokesperson. It is not for nothing that Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, who today apparently feels abandoned, publicly congratulated Rama that, "without his determination and persistence, the "Open Balkans" would be impossible". Our Prime Minister fought with almost all Albanian factors, including the local opposition, to push Open Balkan forward.

While in the international arena, he became his propagandist and spokesman. His positions are now archived. At the Berdo summit in Slovenia, between the EU and the countries of the region, in October 2021, he severely whipped the community of the 27 and asked them for a bargain: "If they don't let us into your family, at least don't prevent us from Open Balkan".

A few months later, alongside his two Macedonian and Serbian partners, he threatened to boycott the joint summit with the EU, raising the question: "What should we do there?" But when they finally went "there", Rama almost threatened the European countries: "If you don't want our region to be destroyed, support the open Balkans". He mentioned in his speech before the European leaders terms like war, conflict, bloodshed while on that same date, on June 24, 2022, Vucic told the same audience: "we don't want our region to end up like Ukraine", giving as an alternative Open Balkan.

With better articulation than his Serbian counterpart and with a difference from a timid cadre like Kovacevski, Rama assumed the role of lobbyist. He began to hold the EU accountable for the non-opening of negotiations, the Bulgarian veto, the non-liberalization of visas for Kosovo, being pressured that the Open Balkans would be a small free space, in the absence of acceptance in the larger space.

He also played this role as the spokesman for the Serbian-Albanian-Macedonian trio in front of Albin Kurti. When the latter wrote a letter about why this initiative was bad for Kosovo, our prime minister replied from Ohrid: "The Open Balkans neither stops nor closes." Whoever opposes it is destined to be disappointed. He who hesitates is destined to waste time."

Therefore, even as a hypocritical merchant, Edi Rama should be thanked. It matters little what the real intention is that he does not say. It is of little importance if he wears the costume of the regional leader that he wore together with Vucic, with that of the "Balkan mediator", between Pristina and Belgrade. It matters little if he is experimenting with a new fable, that of neutrality, after he became a supporter of solutions with divisions and walls and then without borders and without walls. It is of little importance if he does all this, in order to reap fame at the table of the great, where his small place prevents him from sitting.

These are his goals or delusions. But if this time they led to a path that does less harm to Albanians in general and Kosovo in particular, it must be admitted that this is good news. / Lapsi.al
