Our villages like the pits of the Moon

The phrase that 'Polish tourists have a heart for Shëngjergji' comes to mind again. Our country, a moon newly discovered by world tourism, has turned into a map of lunar 'occupations' and 'caves'. I have noticed that every nation has a certain preference in an Albanian village.

Both sides, like our villages and the pits of the Moon, have been there for centuries.

But both sides were discovered this year, or even last year. An international team of researchers has found the first direct evidence that the deepest known crater on the moon is connected to a cave that could provide shelter for astronauts; the year 2022.

Almost the same thing has happened, both for the satellite located thousands of miles away from the Earth, and for a village at the foot of our capital.

Don't you remember when here in the center of Tirana you used to say to others in a slangy way: 'Are you from Momli?', as I was told 'at the end of the world'. Momli was the current village of Mamli, but it was thought to be on the moon. Now Mamli is that village between Tirana and Elbasan, where you arrive in ten minutes by car and where you are amazed by the landscape and the elegance of the buildings. Now in Mamël, the wealthy of Tirana cannot find 200 square meters of land to build a house...

Many things, the size of an entire planet, come to mind as I open this chapter. The nursery of fantasy to know the place 'where our head fell' and for which we 'give our head', was especially awakened by the development of tourism. Do you know that many of our villages have been discovered by foreign tourists; and after praising them, for example, "how beautiful in Bogë", hundreds of families turned on the "Google Map" web service on their iPhones and went to the village between Shkodra and Theth.

In the news of one of the evening TVs, even though I wasn't paying that much attention, the voice of the speaker remained: 'The village of Shëngjergj in Tirana is mostly visited by Polish tourists'. The news was further supplemented with the description of what they enjoy in the village: the waterfall, the river, the restaurants, a small castle above the village where the school used to be, and friendship with the residents until late in the evening...

These villages inserted between the mountains, are a discovery like the "pits of the moon". In fact, even the villagers themselves are discovering their village and themselves. Where did they know the value of their river, the mahogany in the yard, the conversations, the history, and the friendship that give more than the water of the cataract.

On the Moon satellite, scientists discovered the same feeling: As early as 2022, researchers found some pits, and said (as for our Shëngjergji), that "Hey, what do you want, they are the pits created by NASA's ships '. But actually it wasn't like that. There are thousands of pits, up to 170 meters deep, on the Moon. Their model is the 'Mare Tranquillitatis Pit' cave. Not only were those caves not created by astronauts, but they make life possible for visitors to the moon, says their discoverer Tyler Horvath, a California professor. They are surprises that the moon has reserved for man over thousands of centuries. Temperatures on the moon are 250 degrees Fahrenheit (121 degrees Celsius) during the day and drop to minus 208 F (-133 C) at night. But in the caves the temperatures are constant, 17 degrees Celsius. Perfect shelters for Earthlings.

This is how man discovers himself.

The phrase that 'Polish tourists have a heart for Shëngjergji' comes to mind again. Our country, a moon newly discovered by world tourism, has turned into a map of lunar 'occupations' and 'caves'. I have noticed that every nation has a certain preference in an Albanian village.

There are Italians and Ukrainians in Saranda; it seems to them that it is their home. In Theth since long ago, Czechs and Slovaks 'die' for the difficult roads and for the 'hand to hand' cooking. Many English people travel and stay in Diber; so much so that some abusive linguists who call them 'charlatans', say that 'the English language comes from the Dibran dialect'. In Kelmend, there is no place for foreign tourists, because the people of Kelmend are the 'Americans' themselves. They have been migrating to America for decades, and the 'American' boys return to their beautiful villas, fill the streets in the evening and groom girls...

Everywhere there is a nursery of a certain nation. The European Commission declared that Albania is the most visited country, this year almost twice as many as last year.

Throughout our friendly history with others, we have had the country with colors and flavors. As the North Towns were held as 'Edith Durhan's town', while Tepelena below as Lord Byron's domain.

Now the speeds have increased, like with the moon... that's all.
