Today we experienced great pain from the ghastly news of the self-sacrifice of a mother along with her three young children (angels) by drowning themselves in the peaceful river of Buna?!!!
Domestic violence is a serious problem in Albanian society, and it negatively affects the lives of our children.
Let's take a closer look at this issue:
What is domestic violence?
Domestic violence is an extreme form of aggression and the use of physical force to hurt, abuse, damage or destroy.
It can include physical, emotional, sexual assault, or even murder and in this case, multiple suicide??!!!
In the context of the family, this happens between individuals of a family, where one member of the family acts violently against another, and this often happens in Albania.
Forms of domestic violence:
Physical violence: Includes hitting, hair pulling, use of weapons, etc.
Emotional abuse: Includes insults, threats, emotional isolation, etc.
Sexual violence: Includes rape, sexual abuse, even between spouses based on the archaic logic of hiding (the package on the table and the woman in the bed are not asked) or the compulsion to engage in unpleasant behavior.
Neglect: Failure to take care of children's basic needs, such as food, clothing, education, etc.
The impact of violence on children:
Children who grow up in violent environments experience great stress and negative impact on emotional and physical health with dire consequences for their future in society!
They can develop anxiety, depression, behavioral problems, and adversely affect school performance as well as the perfect opportunity to turn these children into social monsters as they have been treated!
Domestic violence affects the formation of children's personality and can affect their future relationships, which tend to be problematic for society and the individual himself.
Efforts to combat domestic violence:
Organizations, local and international institutions, such as UNICEF, work to make society aware and to help children who are victims of violence, but Albanian society itself remains indifferent and the state does not even bother to treat it as a first-hand issue?!
Educational programs and training for parents and teachers are essential to change behaviors and prevent domestic violence.
Raising awareness of children and young people to report violence should be the daily social norm.
