On the eve of April 25, it is worth taking stock of what the parliamentary elections of 2021 actually brought, which were never done three years ago.
The fierce struggles of Sali Berisha and Ilir Meta, or their supporters before the elections, had nothing to do with the final result of the votes, which they had photographed in time in the polls, but with the struggle to dominate the opposition after the elections.
Berisha and Meta announced in advance that they would be the leaders of the future opposition.
On the night of April 25, while the Berisha family television was publishing an exit poll, according to which the opposition had won the elections, Mero Baze wrote the famous editorial: "Rama the government, Basha the party." What was really the political verdict of the elections of April 25, 2021. But the other two opposition factors, wolves of Albanian politics: Sali Berisha and Ilir Meta, started a clash that has led the political development of the opposition factors to this chaos.
The phrase that became a meme of Lulzim Basha after those elections that "The war now begins", was quite true, but the attack on it was carried out for the clear interests of the other two axes of politics that have strong access to media coverage .
But, even though it was clear that we are dealing with a tripolar clash, Berisha and Meta never once had the will to make a real competition within the opposition as to who the leadership belongs to after the April 25 elections.
In the elections within the Democratic Party in July 2021, Sali Berisha openly supported Lulzim Basha, and the smiling exit together during the National Assembly at the Palace of Congresses is emblematic.
The fight that Sali Berisha started with Basha after being expelled from the PD group was never done within the party, but was carried out in parallel bodies, which were at least contested, if not legitimate.
However, the most scandalous action of this war below the belt was the elections of May 14, 2023. When, with the help of Gazmend Bardhi, the Democratic Party was eliminated from the electoral race for candidates for mayors in 61 municipalities of the country. It is this missing race that has given us today a glimpse of the real strength of the political power of the three opposition leaders. We have only one deficient result in terms of advisors.
In all likelihood, even in the 2025 elections, the parties will not appear in the media in a real confrontation between them.
It would be normal for these three figures to be voted for in advance in a contest of who the voters prefer to run.
