Greek journalist Kostas Vaxevanis has published an opinion on Fredi Beleri's candidacy for the MEP. He has revealed his dark past, as he reveals how Rama and Mitsotakis played with his story. According to the journalist, with this candidacy, Mitostakis is helping Rama, as he himself receives the votes of the nationalists. In short, Beleri is being used as a "dice".
" Mr. Mitsotakis, you know that I am a socialist, but I do not hide that for me you are the best Greek prime minister ". With this phrase, Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama addressed his Greek counterpart on December 6, 2022, when he visited Tirana. As it turned out in the following years, Rama meant what he said about Mitsotakis. In addition, in many things Rama copies Mitsotakis and beyond the political differences that he called "socialist", there is a common understanding between the two good friends about "investment", "development" of funds, the rule of law and the sale of public property. Let's add the same consulting companies (Majoritas) that took care of their electoral victory.
The latest rivalry between the two politicians, aimed at imprisoning the minority Fredi Beleri after his election in the municipality of Himara, is a profitable communication tactic for both, what is called victory in management.
Mitsotakis chose to drop Beleri as an MEP candidate in order to stop leaks to the far right. Beleri, who appears as the representative of the minority in Albania, in reality expresses the most extreme views and the cold war for the minority. He, who has emerged from the mold of Metropolitan Konitsa Sevastianou, with his sermons about the "true Vorio-Epirote doll", is falsely creating the image of the defender of minority rights. In reality, he is a fan of the climate of anomalies who tries to hold the minority hostage to notions of autonomy, instead of claiming what is rightfully theirs. Therefore, there is no better candidate to remember that Mitsotakis can coexist with both the orphans of Karatzaferi and the dogs of the Golden Dawn in (his) palace of the right.
From the decision to run for Beleri, Edi Rama benefits in the first place. The Albanian Prime Minister has been freed from the headache of Beler's problem with his election as a member of the European Parliament. He leaves the post of mayor to go to the European Parliament. Rama is the big winner for other reasons as well. The minority in Albania has serious unresolved problems, which include the expropriation of Greek minority properties through various legal tricks. Behind this attack on the minority are not only the "dark circles of dehellenism of Vorio Epiri", but the government businesses of Edi Rama's friends, who want the shores of Albania to build their tourist paradise. In this design is also the conflict of interests with the "godfathers" of the minority, who build a national conflict to cover the real interest in money.
The favor that Mitsotakis did to Edi Rama is that he turned a serious issue of minority rights, which also includes the seizure of her properties, into a "Beleri" issue. The rights and violation of the rule of law in Albania turned into the problem of one person. Placing Beler in the European Parliament solves Rama's problem, who does not have to apologize for his arbitrariness. At the same time, Mitsotakis gains the profile of national concern. Therefore, the loyalists of the extreme right come to the elections to worship Mitsotakis, Beleris and his begler, the instrumentalization and exploitation of serious national issues for electoral gains. "Good luck" as Edi Rama would say.
Beleri's choice not only shows Mitsotakis' adventurousness, but also his adherence to dangerous practices.
You will allow me to move from the analysis to the story that I lived and recorded as a journalist from 1994 to 1999 regarding Fredi Bellerin.
On the morning of April 19, 1995, I arrived sleepily at the Greek-Albanian border as a journalist for "Mega". A conventional and random police block had spotted two cars with Kalashnikovs, radios and masks a few hours earlier. There were seven people in the car, who were arrested. The pursuit of one of these men (he had initially escaped) led to the discovery of other weapons in Athens. The police assessment was that the persons in question, Albanians of Greek nationality, were a provocateur group that was preparing an armed attack on the Logos camp in Albania. It was a repeated operation of the one that took place in April 1994 in the Albanian camp of Peshkepi. Gunmen had entered the camp, killed two soldiers and taken the weapons (Kalashnikov and Tukarev) saying that they were acting in the name of the struggle for "Vorio Epirus". The Front for the Liberation of Vorio Epirus took responsibility for the action ( MAVI).
According to the police of that time, all seven arrested were members of MAVI. Leaks from the Greek government spoke of provocateurs, who aimed to disrupt relations between the two countries. Prime Minister Andreas Papandreou made harsh statements while talking about agents of foreign powers.
To confirm what was said, the Albanian side announced that the Kalashnikovs that were found in the possession of the seven persons were among those stolen in the murderous attack on the Albanian camp.
One of the seven who were arrested and left in custody was Fredi Beleri, who was young at the time. The investigator (if I remember correctly it was Apostolos Papatheodorou) was a catapult against the seven. It was undoubtedly one of the cases of great journalistic and diplomatic interest.
While the interrogation evidence was indisputable about the action of the seven, the prosecutor Eleftherios Patsis changed the serious indictment related to the murders, the breakdown of relations between the countries and dangerous actions, charging them with possession and smuggling of weapons. According to the proposal of his prosecutor, some good guys and nationalists bought the weapons from some unknown Albanians. Therefore, their only crime was that they possessed weapons out of recklessness.
Those arrested were initially sentenced to three to four years in prison and in the Court of Appeal they were sentenced to only 12-18 months. The trial, even though it was a simple case of possession of weapons according to the prosecutor, took place behind closed doors in the prisons of Koridhalios for "national reasons". Now how a mere possession of arms, while at the same time constituting a national secret, is worth questioning. Prosecutor Patsis used the publicity several times for other strange cases and left justice, while Beler and his friends grew as minority leaders. After the light sentence of the seven, it was reported that at the request of an allied country and because the situation with the Albanian speakers in Kosovo was tense, Greece and Albania were asked to close the chapter of their tension and anomaly. There were already decisions for an independent Kosovo and both countries were needed for what was to come. The story might be titled "from terrorist provocateurs to heroes," but ultimately it continues with Mitsotakis' responsibility. / Adapted "Pamphlet" from " Documento News "
