The overestimation of party protests

PD is following the path of protests with the idea that this way it will gain more credits or credibility in the eyes of public opinion. In fact the opposite is true.

In the political history of the Albanian transition, a myth has been raised about political protests as a means to attack the government, to weaken or overthrow it. The facts show that political protests are not efficient in this regard. None of them to date has created any significant political moment to weaken or force a prime minister to leave. Only civil protests can do that. But like anything else in our reality, even this very important instrument for democracy has been monopolized by politics.

Contrary to what is commonly thought, protests are the easiest and not the most difficult way to achieve political success. In recent years, the Albanian opposition has followed this path and achieved nothing. It has held protests for days, boycotted the parliament, boycotted local elections. It was probably the most radical opposition that Albania has ever had during its transition. And yet, its radical path excluded all legislative, executive and judicial powers. Powers you gave to the government, which today uses them to consolidate its control over all branches of public life and against the opposition itself.

The same thing is happening today. PD is following the path of protests with the idea that this way it will gain more credits or credibility in the eyes of public opinion. In fact the opposite is true. Its protests clearly show the inability or impossibility of the opposition to reform in all directions. What can really bring citizens' trust in the opposition is not the protests, but the deep reforms that must be developed within it.

Deep reform means a change in leadership, which is undoubtedly in crisis today. After two years of Sali Berisha's return to the head of the opposition, it can be said that his leadership is already in trouble. None of what he promised has come true. It seems clear that under his leadership, the opposition finds it difficult, almost impossible, to become a majority. And every normal person understands this, except for those who blindly follow behind.

Not only Berisha, but all the most important figures in DP are worn figures, who cannot create any spirit or political vision to succeed. On the contrary, the more they appear in public, the more voters turn away from the opposition.

Reforming the opposition means structural reform. In the age of artificial intelligence, the organizational structures of the opposition today seem outdated and unable to adapt to today's economic and social developments.

Also, her discourse resembles an archaic and out-of-fashion discourse. If for a moment we were to listen to what debates the oppositions are having in European countries, what policies they propose or what battles they put at the center of public opinion, the discourse of the Albanian opposition would resemble that of the early 90s, in Albania.

Of course, it is about a government that controls every power, and it is not at all easy to behave normally with such a government. However, the ability to stand out from power should be its primary objective. On the contrary, the pessimism of the lack of alternative is created, as it has unfortunately been created in recent times in Albania.

In this sense, the path from which the Albanian opposition must pass is the deep reformation within it. It is a long and difficult road, but it is the only way to overthrow this government and to give the opposition people and the Albanians a hope. Who, the solution to change this power and certainly such a thing, they seek from the opposition. Therefore, in many public debates, the opposition and the situation within it has become the center of public opinion. Not because many public voices, including myself, want to deal with the opposition and not the government, but because they see the solution in it.

They even claim this solution. After all, that's her job. Without a reformed opposition, with new leadership and vision, the political life of Rama and this government will continue to be a burden for Albanians for a long time.
