In a way, the Albanian government, namely Edi Rama, will be in an indirect vote in both Greece and Italy.
At least two countries of the European Union have turned Albania into an essential argument of the election campaign.
In Greece, the "Beleri" case is the banner of Prime Minister Qirjako Micotaqis' conservative party in the electoral campaign for the European elections of the weekend. Micotaqis, has even nominated Fredi Beleri as a candidate for MEP.
The "Albania" argument was so important in the Greek campaign that even the leader of the Greek opposition, Stefanos Kasselakis, undertook an electoral expedition in Dropull, where the Greek minority lives.
In Athens, little has been said about economic arguments and European laws. The main argument is Albania.
Meanwhile, in Italy, Albania was from the beginning of the campaign the basic argument of the clash between Giorgia Meloni's right and Elly Schlein's left. The agreement for immigrants and the Gjadri base, it seems, will really be the Gordian knot that the voters will be waiting for on June 8. For or against.
In a way, the Albanian government, namely Edi Rama, will be in an indirect vote in both Greece and Italy.
Of course, the result will not affect politically for the majority in Albania, but the electoral results will be quite rich and vitamin food for the public and political opinion in Tirana, after the European elections.
Specifically, if Micotaqis wins more than in the parliamentary elections, it will look like Fredi Beleri won and Edi Rama lost. If Giorgia Meloni wins in Italy, it will also be considered a victory for Rama and vice versa.
However, this involvement of Albania in the political war in Italy and Greece is not at all the same as what happened in the European elections of 2014 and 2017 in Great Britain when it was within the EU, especially in the Netherlands, France or Denmark.
Because Albania is not the first time that it has become a bone of contention in the electoral agenda of European countries.
In Great Britain, Albania and Albanians have been constantly attacked, mainly by conservatives, calling them a threat.
Meanwhile, in the Netherlands, no political party gave the OK to give Albania candidate status for the EU, because Albanians were used as "red meat" in the electoral campaign. The same in France or Denmark.
However, this time is different. Since for the first time Albania is also an actor for the decisions it has taken. It is a protagonist in a European game.
In 2014, or 2018, the Albanian government had no opportunity to influence you with its decision in the debate where our country was an electoral "subject".
This time, Albania, namely the official Tirana, is an actor in the game. An actor, unlike in 2014 or 2018, opened negotiations, received the status of a candidate country, and even opened negotiations for membership with the European Union.
And in a certain way, even in every way, Tirana is in the eyes of European voters for its elections against the European Union, even though Albanians do not vote for the European Parliament.
However, the voters of the EU countries, and here not only Italy and Greece, as we are dealing with a political argument that has become transnational.
This is precisely a worthy occasion for Albanian politics, but also public and political opinion in Tirana, to debate these issues. And in fact it happened. The opposition is on the side of Athens, namely the Greek right and the Italian left in this clash.
And this is a completely normal thing, since Albania enters a European public debate, which has also been reflected in the media of the respective countries, i.e. Greece and Italy.
It's been a while since this happened; we have in the panels that support Beler and Micotakis, as we have in favor of the majority. Those who support Beleri and Micotakis also support 5 Stars in Italy and the left there.
So the night of the European elections will be hot and interesting in Tirana as well. It will be hotly debated. According to the probability, the victory of Micotaqis will be considered as the loss of Rama and the victory of Giorgia as a defeat. And this, if not a lot, a little bit is a quality dance. European country without being a member...
