DP shares positions after May 11 defeat, Bardhi and others with heads down. Only

The only one who seems to have managed to politically escape this sinking ship of May 11 seems to be the Deputy Chairman of the Democratic Party and Deputy Speaker of the Parliament, Agron Gjekmarkaj, who managed to prevent the pink flood in the Lezha district, preventing the Socialists from advancing from their positions in the 2021 elections.

The May 11 elections have produced a delicate internal situation in the Democratic Party. On the table are not only the analysis of the deep electoral defeat, which has led to the shrinkage of the Democratic parliamentary group, but also the distribution of positions belonging to the opposition in the next Assembly. After May 20, 2023, when Gazment Bardhi was elected chairman of the DP Parliamentary Group, the opposition finds itself faced with the need to reformat everything in light of the last elections.

One of the fundamental questions, with the start of the new legislature in September, is whether Gazment Bardhi will retain his position at the head of the group. On May 11, Bardhi suffered a humiliating defeat in the Fier region, where the Socialists won a full 12 mandates, making the DP receive its worst result in this area of Albania.

Bardhi quietly went through the difficult moment after May 11 and has been reserved in public appearances since then. Will this noisy downfall also be the end of him as vice-president of the DP and chairman of the parliamentary group now that the political balances within the DP are very different from the time when he was seen as a representative of an "independent" current in the party?!

Other names at the top of the democratic pyramid, such as Luciano Boçi, Albana Vokshi, Flamur Noka and Oerd Bylykbashi, are in a no better position than Bardhi. They are political figures who received disappointing results in the May 11 elections and who failed to translate their activism and dedication to Berisha into votes and electoral support.

The only one who seems to have managed to politically escape this sinking ship of May 11 seems to be the Deputy Chairman of the DP and Deputy Speaker of the Assembly, Agron Gjekmarkaj, who managed to prevent the pink flood in the Lezha district, preventing the Socialists from advancing from their positions in the 2021 elections. This of Gjekmarkaj is a unique case in the electoral map of the DP in the last elections, as he managed to maintain a blue spot in the red sea of votes for the Socialists who took the South and the North ahead, giving Edi Rama 83 parliamentary mandates.

Will Gjekmarkaj's position of strength be a guarantee that he will maintain the high political positions he holds? This too will be seen when the DP analyzes the loss, but it is worth saying that at a table with heads down, the political delegate of the Lezhë region is among the few who has no reason to blush. Especially since he has a figure like Gjin Gjoni next to him...
