For the DP and the opposition, this works with double standards: when the government is attacked, they either remain silent or create an alibi of internal war within the faction, while when opposition figures are attacked, accusations begin that justice is under the command of Edi Rama.
The measure of the GJKKO against Deputy Prime Minister Balluku, which concerns the suspension from office and the ban on leaving the country, is, in itself, proportional, because she has the right to be presumed innocent and should face justice without the shield of power. This new development puts her in a long list of majority officials who have clashed with SPAK: Tahiri, Beqaj, Ahmetaj, Veliaj and others.
In any normal country, a series of such attacks on the government would give the opposition political breathing space. Only in Albania the opposite happens, where the majority is hit, while the opposition comes out even worse in every confrontation.
The reason is that, whenever justice acts against the government, the DP chooses to attack justice. Instead of reading reality with objective glasses, it continues with accusations of “captured justice”, giving the majority the perfect justification, which, for the sake of truth, turns out to be true: “We submit to justice, the opposition does not.”
The reason why the opposition is doing such a thing is related only to the personal fate of Sali Berisha. With a leader who himself is facing justice, the DP has no freedom of action: it cannot accept that SPAK is cracking down on corruption, because it would overthrow the narrative with which it defends Berisha himself. So we have a DP that has become a hostage to the troubles of a man, who does not allow him to become a voice of public interest.
On the other hand, people see that SPAK is striking left and right, while for the DP and the opposition, such a thing works with double standards: when the government is struck, they either remain silent or create an alibi of internal war within the faction, while when opposition exponents are struck, accusations begin that justice is under the command of Edi Rama.
It is this ambiguity of the DP and the opposition that prevents them from taking advantage of and transforming the government's attacks into electoral gains.
Under these conditions, the opposition has a fairly easy path to win and come to power: it only needs to separate from Berisha, leave him to his personal and criminal fate, while if it manages to do so, the day of coming to power will not be far away. Any other attempt is futile. Even if Edi Rama is indicted by the Criminal Court, the opposition will never win the elections.
