I don't believe that there is anyone in Albania who believes in the "Free Health" that was promised in the socialist campaign in 2013. For a service to be free, you must not pay the tax. Paying for health insurance and getting the service is not free.
But despite the fact that the taxes paid for these contributions have increased over the years, the medical service has remained at the same levels, there may have been some improvement, but in the provision of necessary and vital services, extortion schemes continue.
To understand: In 2012, according to official data, 65 million euros were paid in taxes in the form of health insurance contributions. In 2013, 74 million euros were paid, while in 2023, 188 million euros were paid. This year, the income from contributions is projected to reach the value of 204 million euros.
If in 2013 the deficit of the scheme was deeper, where the state paid 4.3 times more than the contributions paid, today this ratio has narrowed to 2.9. The deficit could be even lower if the expenses for concessions in health were reviewed, which capture an annual value of payments of 54 million euros.
Therefore, free health care is propaganda that camouflaged the extortionate schemes of concessions in health and oriented a good part of the services towards the private one. But in the situation where this system has arrived today, it seems that the only solution is to abandon the wrong policies that have been taken until today and start from the beginning.
The model when private service is allowed is applied in those states that recognize and pay part of the cost of the visit or cover the entire cost of a vital operation, otherwise abuses start and flourish. If there are no funds to cover these costs, then close the private system. Public service only!
It makes no sense to invent operations and analyzes to extort money, which sometimes cost health and other times life in their name. There is no sense in the lack of medicines in the hospital because the tenders are not made for fear that the KLSH finds a violation, but for everything else we invent an emergency. Is there a greater emergency than saving a patient's life?
It does not make sense that when we go to get the vaccine for the child, the public doctor advises us to buy it privately because there is a risk of high fever. It makes no sense to write another medication in the prescription, but to reimburse only a certain name because they try to save money, while fictitious check-up analyzes are paid! It makes no sense to pay for public works that do not exist and not save the lives of people in difficulty who seek support for a cure on Go Fund Me platforms...

So tomorrow (June 26, 7:00 p.m.) I'm going out to protest to demand accountability from anyone who had a finger, chose to turn a blind eye and didn't act for years, allowing the health system to rot and caused serious crimes in human life!
I will also thank every white shirt that has not become part of these schemes, but has dedicated itself to work with responsibility and sacrifice and has not abandoned the country serving us in difficult moments.
