Berisha agreed to receive political confirmation as the leader of the opposition, simultaneously accepting Edi Rama as the leader of the government.
A great wave of disappointment has mainly involved the base of the Democrats in the opposition, after the compromise that Sali Berisha made with Edi Rama to keep the lists closed with partial opening for next year's elections, which means that most of candidates for deputies remain the attribute of confirmation by party leaders.
Of course, in a preliminary calculation referring to the circumstances of the political and electoral conditions, this is a strong advantage for the SP and a prelude to the victory of the fourth mandate for Edi Rama. Simply put, Berisha agreed to receive political confirmation as the leader of the opposition, simultaneously accepting Edi Rama as the leader of the government. Meanwhile, immediately after joining the votes with the majority to pass the legal changes for the electoral code in the Parliament, Berisha and his followers in the party have started a public campaign, where they are trying to tell the democratic membership, that this vote joined with Edi Ramen was not in favor of the electoral reform, since according to the doctor what was approved was not one, but it was the implementation of the decision of the Constitutional Court on the opening of the lists, which was actually done with the appropriate trick that suits the non-voters and serviles.
In the 2021 elections, Rama made a strong tactical move, while putting the political leaders of the party in the districts, including himself, on the border of the winning list of the SP, which put them to work to gather votes and get a winning result. On the other hand, Basha, who led the DP at the time with the comfort of the chairman, appointed according to preferences and calculations the people who should be safe in the Parliament, pre-imagining in some way even the defeat. What scheme will Berisha follow in the next elections, Rama's or Basha's? Will he take the political leaders to the extremes of the list if he claims to win the elections?! That remains to be seen. Meanwhile, the fact that there is a rush by Berisha and the whole group that claims to get a place on the winning list of the opposition's defeat in the new legislature, to tell the Democrats that there is no pact with Edi Rama, shows that the Democrats at the base are very disappointed, because Berisha&co had prepared them for another version.
And who would have thought that Berisha would get so carried away at this point, that because of his ego fixated on having under control and ownership of a party, he would reach this point where he would accept a fixed menu offered by Rama, i who always manages to get what he cares about on the table whenever he needs to in connection with the elections. But in order not to prejudice the great doctor to the extreme, perhaps he should be given a chance. For example, if Berisha really does what he says, practically if he has the will to have a list of widely accepted values of candidates for deputies, let him organize a primaries process in the party before the final list of candidates for the 2025 elections is announced.
The membership gives its consent to the candidates it prefers, not to be a fait accompli. So the proposal goes along the same lines as the promotion of the primaries that Berisha and his leaders trumpet loudly as if they were applying it to important races. Here is the opportunity to implement this very nourishing process for real democracy in the party. If Berisha accepts and implements a transparent primaries process, through the principle of one member one vote and without manipulating or predetermining the list and conducting a fictitious vote in the party, then the shadows of a political compromise that prescribes the next defeat for the opposition would be undone.
Otherwise, Berisha, apart from being the most spectacular loser that the democratic camp and the opposition as a whole has known, would go down in the political history of Albania as the most characterless and intriguing man who has sold the interests of an entire opposition simply and only for the agenda of his personal and that of a small group of stakeholders unvoted and unwanted by Albanians, but in particular by the opposition themselves!
