On January 7, 2021, the US Ambassador in Tirana Mrs. Yuri Kim paid a visit to the new Minister of Defense Niko Peleshi. Two days ago, Pelesi had taken over from Mrs. Olta Xhaçka, who was appointed to the MEPJ.
Ambassador Kim congratulated Minister Peleshi on his new position, but following the previous meeting with Prime Minister Edi Rama on November 9, 2020, she did not forget to remind the new minister of the high level of corruption in the Ministry of Defense.
A few days later, Minister Peleshi canceled the budgeting of the New Secret Museum in Bërzhitë for 2021 procured by Xhaçka for 6 million euros in December 2019. He also canceled several other problematic procurements. Only in North Korea there are secret museums. In Albania, museums are open to the public. When it was decided to turn the wartime command post at Dajt into a museum, which today bears the name Bun'kart 1, its documentation was declassified. Minister Peleshi did not finance the secret museum for 2021 and 2022, but in 2023 he budgeted 100 million.
On September 2, 2021, after winning the elections, when KM Rama presented the new government cabinet, Defense Minister Niko Peleshi, sitting in the hall, learned there that he would continue to be the head of this department. Until two days ago, KM Rama planned the return of Mrs. Xhačka back to Defense. This was so certain that the Chief of the General Staff Major General Bajram Begaj had celebrated the return of Xhačka with his chosen subordinates.
This decision was so unwanted for KM Rama, but forced, that when he made the presentation, in contrast to the other ministers, he failed to single out the management of these two departments, mentioning the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Defense separately, as if he wanted to say that Xhaçka will continue to take a look at the Ministry of Defense.
