Truth and history are repeated in different ways, by different people, at different times, but the behavior towards them in democratic countries has an inviolable rule and structure, to see the truth and to avoid personal grudges and vendettas. . It seems clear that Sali Berisha either does not know this, or pretends not to know, taking advantage of the uninformed and the illiterate...
When we talk and write about Faik Konica and Fan Noli, we should keep our backs straight and our heads bowed as a sign of respect. We talk and write about two titans of Albanian knowledge that the years have not yet seen repeated in any other. The cultural and intellectual dimensions of both crossed countries and continents when the world was not global.
And yet, as Ilir Ikonomi proves through archival documents in his precious book "Faik Konica - life in Washington", between Konica and Noli there was an ugly, treacherous, terrible human period. Konica mentions the word "unfaithful" as the biggest insult to an Albanian, unlike, for example, a Greek, who is ignorant and ignorant is the worst insult. But, did Konica show "unfaithfulness" with Fan Noli in the years of fierce war between them? It all revolves around the persecution, the insistence of Faik Konica to declare Fan Noli "unpopular" in America, to deny him an entry visa, accusing him of being a dangerous Communist and Bolshevik. We remember those were the years when the entire American system was extremely sensitive, even allergic to communists and Bolsheviks, not only within the borders of the USA,
Konica did his best to prevent Noli from ever setting foot in the USA, that is, to be declared "non grata" if we are to use today's term. But how did the American democratic system and its people behave, even though there was an extraordinary regard for Konica and his friendships reached the heights of people with political influence from Boston, New York and Washington?
It was the years between the end of 1920 and the beginning of 1930, when in Albania, Ahmet Zogu from Prime Minister was self-proclaimed King even with the unexpected "hosannas" of Faik Konica, already appointed as "Minister" (Ambassador) of Albania in Washington. Fan Noli considered Konica as a sellout and the articles about him in "Republika" were merciless, as were the answers of Konica and his colleagues in "Dielli". But it was another game that Konica plays "under the rug" that shows another nature of him, which the journalist and writer Ilir Ikonomi has presented with honesty and intellectual correctness. It is up to the readers to judge and see with their own eyes how the Albanians attacked each other, but also how the American democratic system operated. Then, as today.
In the Red and Blue chapter of the book, everything is elaborated like no better:
After a long stay in Europe, on May 4, 1930, Fan Noli returned to America. The fight between the "Sun" of Vatra and Konica at the same time and the "Republic" of Noli is fierce. Dielli called Noli "a Turk, who today has neither home nor people in Albania." The Albanians, - wrote "Dielli", - honored Fan Noli and made him their leader, but as a reward for the good things they did to him, he introduced strife to the Albanians and caused them to be killed brother by brother. Now he still hasn't given up on fratricide".... Even "Republika" was no more sensitive to the attacks on Konica, whom it called "Bey of Konica" or "minister Salemboza"; he and his brother Mehmet were described as "puppies, hounds, langurs that come around the Zogollian slaughterhouse, etc."
Reading the facts in the book of Economics would be of great value to understand the whole, but Konica's action in the following lines is unprecedented.
Then we know the story, Fan Noli stayed and lived in the United States until the last days of his life.
