Among Albania's 1.9 million adult residents, only 1.46 million participated in the May 11 parliamentary elections. That is, only 77% of them.
While in the 18-34 age group, participation in the elections was significantly lower, only 65%. Meanwhile, in the 35-100 age group, the participation here was 81%.
Combining the above figures, it results that around 165 thousand young people aged 18-34 did not participate in the elections, out of around 440 thousand total non-participants - almost 2/5 of the non-participants.
This high non-participation in the elections by young people can be explained by fatigue with Rama's long rule, pessimism towards the 81-year-old opposition leader, and little hope in the small, quarrelsome parties.
