The perpetrators are suspected of having fled by speedboat after the attack. The 50-year-old, who was transported to Ioannina, stated that he was unable to identify the people who shot him.
New details have emerged from the investigations into the assassination attempt on 50-year-old Thimjo Rubati , also known as Sandër Rubati , who was injured on Friday evening in Saranda after a gunshot attack.
Sources close to the investigation group indicate that one of the leads being verified is a possible connection between the assassination attempt and the rape of Police Officer Mihal Velço , an event recorded just a day earlier, in the same area. In this case, the police have announced a search for Rubati's son, Andrea Rubati, 27, as well as Antonio Lefter and Engjëll Dalanaj , all three people with criminal records.
According to preliminary investigations, the perpetrators of the attack were masked and wore diving suits to hide their identities. They are suspected of initially fleeing the scene on a motorbike, while another possibility being investigated is that they then continued their escape towards the beach area, at the end of "Mithat Hoxha" street, where they are suspected of leaving on a speedboat.
Police forces conducted intensive checks throughout the night and continue to search for the identification and capture of the perpetrators, while so far it has not been possible to locate them.
Meanwhile, Thimjo Rubati has been transported for specialized treatment to the hospital in Ioannina. Initially, he received first aid at the Hospital in Saranda, where he was also given blood due to the wounds he sustained. Sources from the investigation indicate that the 50-year-old was conscious after the attack, but in his testimony he stated that he did not know the people who shot him.
Rubati was seriously injured after being shot three times in an assassination attempt in neighborhood no. 4 of Saranda. The attack, according to investigations, is suspected to have been well-organized, while the perpetrators took advantage of the movement of a motorcycle to approach and quickly leave the scene.
The injured man is a well-known name to the Albanian and Greek authorities. He has criminal records for smuggling, illegal possession of weapons and vehicle trafficking. In the past, he served a sentence in Greece for a criminal case, while at that time he was also wanted in Albania in the context of a file for trafficking and smuggling of vehicles, which also involved former customs officials. One of the leads being investigated remains the possibility that the assassination is linked to conflicts carried over from his past.
The investigative group, under the direction of the Prosecutor's Office, continues to work to document the full circumstances of the assassination and to determine the motive that led to the attack on the 50-year-old.
