Mohsen Rezaei, a senior official of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and military advisor to Iran's Supreme Leader, warned yesterday that any continuation of US military attacks on Iran will lead to a significant escalation of the conflict.
In an interview with Iranian state television (IRIB), Rezaei said that if the US attacks continue for another two or three days, Iran will move into a phase of full-scale offensive operations.
"If the US attacks continue for another two or three days, we will enter a phase of full-scale offensive operations," he said.
His statements come at a time when clashes between the two countries have entered their seventh consecutive day, with the US continuing military operations against Iranian targets, while Tehran has responded with attacks on American bases in the territory of several of Washington's Arab allies.
Rezaei also warned that, in the event of further escalation, "no political border will be safe from Iran's offensive forces." He accused the US of attacks on civilian infrastructure and demanded that Washington pay financial compensation, charges which US authorities have denied.
The Iranian official's rhetoric follows statements by US President Donald Trump, who recently declared the ceasefire and memorandum of understanding between the US and Iran to be over, while ordering new military strikes on the country.
In response, Iran has struck American bases located on the territory of several US allies in the region, including Qatar, Kuwait and Bahrain, raising concerns about an expansion of the conflict in the Middle East.
