The Director of Gjirokastra Police, Ardian Çipa, has given details about the accident that happened in Këlcyra with 8 victims. In a statement to the media, Çipa explained that the vehicle with immigrants was moving quickly beyond the limits and the police patrol signaled it to stop.
The vehicle at this moment has turned towards Përmet and is speeding away.
" The police encountered a vehicle that was speeding beyond the permitted limits. In an attempt to signal him to stop, the vehicle turned around and started towards the city of Përmet. The police patrol with its vehicle followed it to the vicinity of the scene, informed the operating room about the vehicle that had left in the direction of Përmet at high speed. At around 03:55, since the vehicle was not detected, the patrol moved towards Përmet, contacting the citizens who asked them if they had seen such a vehicle. They started inspecting the area and saw signs of a road accident and saw the vehicle that fell on the side of the Vjosa river.
The other people are suspected to be illegal immigrants. We cannot give a conclusion regarding the speed of the vehicle. The number of corpses is large and as a result many examinations have been performed to obtain and administer evidence for the identification of persons and clarification of the circumstances" , said Çipa.
