The former general commander of the National Police in Ecuador, Tannya Varela Coronel, has rejected recent statements that she has connections with the Albanian mafia.
" I am innocent, I enjoy my presumption of innocence as a fundamental right and I will defend my name with determination ", she declared.
Coronel has described as untruths and slander all the accusations that connect her name with the activity of the Albanian mafia in Ecuador.
" I break my silence because, for many others, it is better for me to remain hermetic while receiving their slanderous accusations against me ", she commented.
She emphasizes that throughout her career she has only fought gangs and has never collaborated with them.
" They will never be able to link me in any way to any irregular actions for the benefit of the criminal organizations that I have fought during my professional life. I have never committed any irregularities, neither as commander-in-chief nor as a civilian ," she added.
