The prosecution has sentenced to 70 years the ten defendants involved in drug trafficking on a large scale, throughout Northern Italy and with a logistical base in Rovigo.
The investigation began after the seizure of five wheels of kačkaval cheese filled (each) with 25 kilograms of pure cocaine.
The drug was transported in a camper van from the Netherlands and was destined for Sardinia, while it was camouflaged inside wheels of cheese. Investigators then arrived at the gang's logistics base in Rovigo. While the investigation passed into the hands of the Public Prosecution of Venice, responsible for the crime of drug trafficking throughout Veneto.
Penalties :
Judge Luca Marini handed down the sentences for all the gang members, who had benefited from a summary judgment and consequently, the automatic reduction of the sentence by a third. Public prosecutor Andrea Petroni had asked for 93-year sentences, but in general the charge remained stable and the judge for the preliminary hearings established the existence of a criminal group dedicated to drug trafficking. The heaviest sentence came for the young Albanian Erion Feimi, considered the "brain" of the group. He was sentenced to 16 years in prison and fined 40,000 euros.
Base in Rovigo
The investigation was opened by the Turin Prosecutor's Office and then continued in Venice, precisely because Rovigo was considered the base of the group. In total, more than 130 kilograms of drugs were seized from the Netherlands, which landed in Turin and then in Veneto, partly to stay here and partly to reach Sardinia.
Meanwhile, the other convicted Albanians are Glorildo Halili, who was sentenced to 7 years and a 30 thousand euro fine, as well as Mateo Kolaj. The other convicts are Italian citizens. Everyone can appeal their convictions.
