Eduart Merkaj will be the new head of the Police Supervision Agency. Merkaj previously held leadership roles in the State Police, including the Border Directorate.
But he left this position with the signature of Gledis Nano, the former Director General of the State Police.
At that time, Merkaj's departure was linked to a scandal at the port of Durres where 50 crates of bananas that may have contained cocaine disappeared from a container. After leaving the management position, Merkaj was transferred to the Security Academy.
Merkaj's appointment comes after the resignation of Florian Sulejmani. Merkaj is one of the first leaders to be appointed since Albana Koçiu took office as Minister of Interior.
