Driver Arbër Xhaxhaj was drunk and driving at a very high speed on the Tirana-Durres side of the road.
A serious accident occurred yesterday evening at the Dajlan Bridge in Durres. Police report that a vehicle fell from the overpass, killing the 18-year-old passenger.
The victim was Vikena Greku, a passenger, while the injured person is citizen Arbër Xhaxhaj. The latter was drunk and driving at a very high speed on the Tirana-Durres side of the road.
The uncle was seriously injured and was transported to the hospital for medical attention.
Also, 2 pedestrians were injured in the accident, who after receiving medical attention at the hospital have been released and are out of danger.
"Around 22:15, on 15.01.2026, at the Dajlan Bridge, in neighborhood no. 4, the vehicle driven by citizen A. Xh., 26 years old, resident of Fier, fell from the overpass.
As a result of the accident, the passenger, citizen VG, 18 years old, died, while the driver of the vehicle, citizen A. Xh., and two pedestrians, citizens TT, 33 years old, and AM, 35 years old, who are in hospital under the care of doctors, were injured," the police announced.
Footage from the scene shows the car torn apart by the strong impact, requiring the intervention of firefighters to extract the two young men who were inside the vehicle.
The 26-year-old lost control of the vehicle and not even the metal roadway guards could stop the vehicle, which ended up under the Dajlan Bridge.
It is learned that work is being carried out on one lane of the Dajlan Bridge overpass, while the road has been equipped with signage and warning signs.
It is not yet known whether these were not noticed by the driver of the vehicle, leading to a wrong maneuver, or if there were other circumstances that influenced the accident. However, it will be the investigation team that will clarify the circumstances and causes of the accident.
