However, the decisive evidence that the prosecution provided, evidence that also shed light on the entire incident, was the testimony of citizen Ronaldo Pema.
The Berat court has sentenced Byniamin Hajro to 25 years in prison. He is accused of the premeditated murder of two people. The decision came after the request of the prosecutor in the case, Eni Çulli.
Byniamin Hajro, known as Bujo Çami, has been charged with 'Premeditated Murder' of two people in 1997, a macabre crime that shocked the country after the victims were burned alive.
Referring to the investigative file submitted to the Court by the Berat Prosecution Office, it resulted that Hajro, in collaboration with other unidentified persons, after kidnapping the victims, put them in a garage and tortured them by hitting them with hard objects, firearms and burning them alive, thus causing their death.
After the torture, the perpetrators dragged the bodies of the victims by car through the city. The victims of the macabre crime were Arjan Avdullai, 18 years old, and Eduart Pema, 25 years old. The investigation began on 22.03.1998, while in April 2012, the court decided to reopen the investigation after the shocking testimony of the brother of one of the victims.

Four people were sent to court accused of the serious incident. The Berat Prosecutor's Office filed charges against citizens Kudret Zhuka (arrested in December 2013), Kastriot Frashëri, Byniamin Hajro and Gazmend Hoxha, whom it accuses of the serious incident of 1997.

The prosecution reports that there have been great difficulties in investigating the incident, as the victims' graves have been found with difficulty.

Vrasja e dy viktimave, Arjan Avdullai dhe Eduart Pema, ka ndodhur më datë 3 qershor 1997 në orën 10:30 në lagjen “Jani Vruho”. Një grup personash të paidentifikuar kanë vrarë me armë zjarri automatik shtetasit Arjan Avdullai dhe Eduart Pema. Në kohën kur ka ndodhur ngjarja nuk ka qenë e mundur kryerja e veprimeve hetimore për shkak të trazirave të vitit 1997. Hetimi për ngjarjen nisi një vit më vonë, më 1998. Pas shumë përpjekjesh, më 17 prill 2012 është vendosur rifillimi i hetimeve për shkak të deklarimeve të dhëna nga shtetasi Bledar Pema (ndryshuar emri në Ronaldo Pema). Ai ka thënë se më 2 qershor 1997, rreth orës 17:00 të pasdites ka qenë me vëllain, Eduart Pema, duke ndenjur në trotuarin e rrugës që të çon në lagjen “Vakëf”, afër spitalit “Befotrof”.

Në dëshminë e dhënë vëllai i viktimës shprehet si më poshtë: “Vjen nga lagjja ‘Vakëf’ një makinë veturë e tipit ‘Benz’, ngjyrë e bardhë, me targa Berati, numrat nuk i kam të fiksuar. Makina ndaloi para këmbëve tona.
Prej saj zbresin 4 persona, që arrita t’i njihja. Ishin: Byniamin Hajro, banor i lagjes ‘Kushtrim’, Kudret Zhuka, banor i lagjes ‘Kushtrim’, Kastriot Frashëri, banor i lagjes ‘Kushtrim’, aktualisht mbahet në Burgun e Kosovës në Lushnjë, dhe Gazmend Hoxha, banor i lagjes ‘Kushtrim’. Të gjithë personat, kur zbritën nga makina në duar mbanin automatikë kallash. Makinën e drejtonte Byniamin Hajro. Këta persona afrohen drejt nesh me automatikë në duar. Sa mbërrin aty Byniamin Hajro së bashku me Kudret Zhukën, i thonë Eduartit ‘futu në makinë’.
Ai nuk kundërshtoi, por u fut në makinë menjëherë, u ul në sediljen mbrapa mes Gazmend Hoxhës dhe Kastriot Frashërit. Makina iku në drejtim të shtëpisë së Byniamin Hajros. Unë nuk reagova pasi në atë kohë isha vetëm 13 vjeç dhe personat ishin të armatosur. Shkova në shtëpi. Aty gjeta mamanë, Hamiten, babain, Novruzin, dy vëllezërit, Sokol dhe Haxhi Pema. U thashë se Eduartin e morën nën kërcënimin e automatikëve Byniamin Hajro, Kudret Zhuka, Kastriot Frashëri dhe Gazment Hoxha.
Familjarët u shqetësuan, por duke pasur parasysh me kë kishin të bënin, nuk bënë asnjë veprim konkret. Më pas, unë, pasi pashë se nuk po vinte vëllai, u nisa për të shkuar drejt shtëpisë së Byniamin Hajros. Ora ka qenë rreth 17:30 e datës 2 qershor 1997 dhe pashë te garazhi i Byniaminit vëllain tim Eduartin të lidhur me tel me gjemba me duar mbrapa, të shtrirë në tokë dhe që katër personat e morën dhe e qëllonin me qytë automatiku. Garazhi ishte i hapur, qepeni ishte i ngritur lart. U tregova familjarëve për atë që kisha parë. Ata u shqetësuan dhe thane që ‘nuk kemi çfarë t’u bëjmë atyre se ata të vrasin’.
The police were not working. The next day I got up at six in the morning, I went to Byniamin's garage to see if my brother was there or not. The garage door was open, inside I saw Bynaim Hajro, Kudret Zhuke, Kastriot Frashëri and Gazment Hoxha. Lying on the floor of the garage tied with barbed wire, I saw my brother Eduart and Arjan Avdullai. After they were tied up, the four people got into the car, Gazmend Hoxha was the driver, Kastriot Frashëri sat in the front seat as a passenger, while Kudret Zhuka and Byniamin Hajro got into the back seat.
They started the car and drove towards the square of the 'Vakëf' neighborhood, dragging the two bodies along the neighborhood road that leads to the 'Vakëf' square. I did not leave the back of the car that was dragging them to the square. There the car stopped, Byniamin Hajro, Kudret Zhuka, Kastriot Frashëri and Gazment Hoxha got out of it, all with automatic weapons in their hands. Kastriot Frashëri and Gazmend Hoxha went and untied the wire from the car's hook. After untied the wire, these two opened the trunk door of the car and took out a glass bottle from it, as far as I can tell, it may have been a kilo, and with the liquid it contained they sprayed the two bodies of Eduart and Arjan.
After the spraying, Kastriot Frashëri and Gazmend Hoxha were set on fire. The bodies caught fire and at this moment Arjan Avdullaji stood up and started cursing Byniamin Hajro, Kudret Zhuka, Kastriot Frashëri and Gazment Hoxha. At this time Gazmend Hoxha fired a volley of automatic weapons at Arjan Avdullaji and left him dead on the spot. After doing this, Byniamin Hajro, Kudret Zhuka, Kastriot Frashëri and Gazment Hoxha left. The bodies of both continued to burn. At this time, I went home and told my family members about the incident that had happened.
