Azgan Mërnica surrendered to the Fier police two days ago, after several hours of negotiations. It is learned that it was the family members who convinced him to end his escape, as the police had located the area where he was hiding.
According to sources, he was hiding in the village of Dermenas. Then the police asked the family members to intervene, because if he opened fire, he would be shot dead.
Earlier in his testimony, Mërnica did not show remorse as he said that everything was momentary.
"I thought that he cursed and offended me and that's why I stopped to explain and a fight started" , he said, adding that at this moment he got out of the car to explain and saw that the policeman had his hand close to the service weapon .
The young man stated that he shot thinking that the officer would kill him first, since according to 23-year-old Novruz Cenalia, he had reached for the service weapon. The victim and the perpetrator collided with each other physically, then the 23-year-old stated that there was a conflict between them.
"We had a conflict, he cursed me, we both took out our guns and I shot first, I don't regret what I did", said the author.
The serious event happened on May 13 in Baltëz of Fier. The police officer, Novruz Cenalia, was driving to work, as it was his second shift, but in a narrow street he met an "Audi" in front of him, which was driven by Azgan Mërnica. The two argued about who should open the way and at one point the 23-year-old man took out his gun and shot the officer dead. He was in the vehicle with his mother. He then sped away and abandoned the car at some relatives, leaving on foot.
