The former officer of the Italian Anti-Mafia Police, Gianni Pelagonia, has stated that the Albanian mafia in recent years has become one of the strongest in the world.
Pelagonia made the comments during an interview in "Euronews Albania", where he said that in some aspects the Albanian mafia has surpassed Ndraghetta, especially when it comes to drug transportation.
He also said that Italy has known mostly "bad" Albanians who have stolen and raided the houses of Italians.
“To define the mafia, there is a judgment for a mafioso, because it has several characteristics. From the point of view of the court case and the process, it cannot be said that there are mafias, but the Albanian mafia is one of the strongest in the world. Maybe there is a judicial point of view of the process, they cannot be called mafia, but Albanian criminality in some cases has surpassed Ndraghetta.
As for drug issues. Several arrests were made in Spain a few days ago. Unfortunately, we have known bad Albanians. Unfortunately, we have known bad Albanians, because the good ones pay taxes and lead a normal life like everyone else.
As police officers, we have known Albanians who, with some gangs, were burglarizing houses, for several years they have massacred us with house burglaries. People need to get into the whistleblowing culture. People here still have trouble reporting. This is a social problem that must be fought. We must be a team, the citizens, the police and the judicial authorities," Pelagonia said.
