What is hidden behind the meeting between Rama, Meloni and Sunak in Rome?!

The British government has not said whether Mr Sunak is interested in pursuing a similar deal with Albania, which would run alongside the government's problematic scheme in Rwanda...

Rishi Sunak, the British Prime Minister, will discuss radical plans to process asylum applications from migrants.

He will travel to Rome for a mini summit on illegal migration with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and her Albanian counterpart Edi Rama.

He will then give a speech on the subject at a political conference organized by Ms Meloni's Brothers of Italy party.

Last year, Mr. Sunak agreed to a historic return deal with Mr. Rama. After this agreement, the number of Albanians crossing the Channel illegally dropped by 90 percent.

He is expected to discuss a new deal that would allow Italy to send illegal immigrants to Albania to process their asylum claims.

The so-called "relocation across the sea" agreement has been temporarily blocked by the Constitutional Court of Albania.

If it will be enabled, this could mean that the requests in Albania of 36,000 immigrants per year are processed in two centers built and run by Italy.

The British government has not said whether Mr Sunak is interested in pursuing a similar deal with Albania, which would run alongside the government's problematic scheme in Rwanda.

A spokesman said tomorrow's summit would "focus on existing partnerships and the return agreement with Albania".

But a source confirmed that the agreement between Italy and Albania will also be on the agenda.

Italy is on the frontline of the EU's migration crisis, having welcomed almost 130,000 arrivals in the first nine months of this year. According to the agreement, Italy will send up to 3,000 people per month to Albania.

Once their claims have been assessed, Italy will be responsible for either their return or deportation.

The scheme is different from the UK's partnership with Rwanda, under which migrants will have no chance to apply for asylum.

But some ministers believe an overseas resettlement deal would have an easier time getting past the courts, especially with a country like Albania that already has a return deal.

A government source said earlier today that the scheme highlights the growing interest of other European countries in trying to deter illegal immigrants. Germany, Denmark and Austria are among other countries considering Rwanda-style agreements.

Tomorrow's talks also underline the budding political partnership between Mr. Sunak and Mrs. Meloni. The two leaders will hold a one-on-one session before being joined by Mr. Rama for a wider discussion./Daily Mail
