Other details have been revealed after the Greek police operation that led to the seizure of 310 kg of cocaine and the arrest of several citizens, including Albanians.
According to the sources, the operation took place within the framework of a multi-month investigation in cooperation with the DEA Office of the American Embassy in Athens regarding a criminal organization, transnational in nature, active in the trafficking of significant quantities of cocaine from Latin America to European countries but and Turkey.
The 54-year-old Albanian Jasona Merkuri alias Andrea Merkuri alias Azdren Muharremi, as the head of the criminal organization, was in charge of finding drug quantities, financing the purchase and transportation, organizing the shipment of drugs from Panama to European countries, hiding them in containers destined for Greece and their further movement.
36-year-old Marsel Stafaj, as a direct collaborator of Merkuri, was in charge of finding and recruiting collaborators in Greece for importing and receiving drugs and their further trafficking, while 64-year-old Ioannis Biglakis was in charge of communicating with other members of the criminal organization located abroad, representing them for the coordination of the supply and financing of the purchase of the quantities to be trafficked.
Still-unidentified members of the organization based abroad were charged with supplying, purchasing, placing and concealing within containers loaded with legal cargo originating in Panama and bound for Greece, significant quantities of cocaine for further trafficking while members still unidentified persons of the organization based in Greece were responsible for the further trafficking of the seized amount.
In the morning hours of 22.05.2024, on the street "Agios Dimitriou" no. 43 in Piraeus, Jasona Merkuri was caught in possession of 180 packages of cocaine, with a total gross weight of 210 kg and 300 grams. In the checks of the residences and vehicles of the above arrested persons, 1 9 mm caliber pistol and a comb with 15 9 mm caliber cartridges, a small amount of cannabis, 25 cartridges of different calibers, etc. were found and seized. 131 thousand 675 euros and 30 British pounds, 2 motorbikes, 17 mobile phones, 1 USB, 3 GPS, various hand notes were seized.
The investigation of the case continues to clarify its other aspects, while already in the framework of the cooperation with the relevant authorities of other countries, searches are being carried out for the capture of the members of the organization who have not been arrested.
Jasona Merkuri is a wanted person in Greece, sentenced to 20 years in prison and a 100,000 euro fine, after the seizure in 2017 of an amount of 634,246 "Captagon" drug tablets. One of his vehicles was caught in Turkey in 2008 with 22 kg of heroin, where his wife's brother was arrested, who was arrested again during the 2017 operation. Meanwhile, in Albania, Merkuri is the owner of a clothing store on "Rruga of Durrës" in Tirana.
As for the Greek Ioannis Biglakis, according to the information of the Panamanian authorities, in 2012, he was arrested by the Costa Rican authorities, after he was awaiting an extradition request from the USA, for his involvement in a case of arms transfer from Europe, in support of the terrorist organization FARC, in exchange for 50 kg of cocaine. For this case, he served a prison sentence in the USA.
