The Greek police in cooperation with the American DEA this morning hit a drug network in the Port of Piraeus, locating a container of shrimps in which 210 kg of cocaine was hidden.
Inside the container that had come from Latin America, specifically from Colombia, were frozen shrimp and drugs. A skull with hair and a beard was stamped on the cocaine. The Greek authorities were notified by the American services about the amount of cocaine in the container.
The final destination of the container was Albania, from where it would be distributed in Central and Northern Europe. So far, according to the Greek media, 2 Albanians and 2 Greeks have been arrested. The two arrested Albanians are Jasona (Andrea) Merkuri, Azdren Muharremi, 54, and Marcel Stafaj, 36.
The roles of the arrested
The Albanian Azdren Muharremi was the leader of the criminal organization, responsible for finding the quantities of drugs in circulation, financing the transport, organizing the shipment of drugs from Panama to European countries, hiding them in containers destined for Greece and their movement further towards Europe
Marsel Stafaj, a direct associate of Muharrem, in charge of finding and recruiting associates in Greece for the importation and acquisition of drugs and their further trafficking.
Ioannis Viglakis, in charge of communication with other members of the criminal organization located outside Greece, for coordinating the supply and financing of the purchase of the quantities to be trafficked.
Alexandros Merkouris, responsible for the operational coverage and protection of Muharrem taking the necessary measures to avoid his arrest.
Unknown, unidentified members of the organization based abroad who were involved in the supply, purchase, placement and concealment inside containers loaded with legal cargo originating in Panama and bound for Greece.
Unknown, unidentified members of the organization based in Greece responsible for the further trafficking of the seized quantity.
Following the above, in the morning hours of 22.05.2024, on Agios Dimitriou street no. 43 in Piraeus, Azdren Muharremi and three other members of the group were arrested.
