The international drug trafficking network passing from Albania to Switzerland was dismantled and thousands of euros were seized. The anti-mafia operation started this morning from Milan and extended to Cozenza. Crimes also include extortion and exploitation of prostitution.

The dense drug trafficking network that was dismantled was rooted in the Milan area, but was in constant contact with Albania. According to the accusations, the arrested instigated drug trafficking in Italian and Swiss territory. 16 Albanians, 5 Moroccans, 2 Italians and a Tunisian ended up in handcuffs.

The arrests were made in the provinces of Milan, Bergamo, Cremona, Leço, Lodi, Mantua, Monza Brianza, Piacenza, Savona, Turin and Varese, Brescia and Cosenza. Also, 40 checks were carried out for the seizure of the products of drug trafficking activity. A turnover that is supposed to capture millions of euros.

The operation requested by the Antimafia Directorate of Milan and ordered by the investigating judge of the Court of Milan, is considered to be a serious blow to the drug trafficking network, which started from Albania with the destination of drug trading in Switzerland and Italy.

It is no coincidence that some of the provinces where the arrests were made are close to or border the Confederation, as in the case of Varësa. But arrests were also made in nearby Leço and Monza Brianza, as well as in the Milan area.

Among the charges against those arrested are participation in criminal organizations aimed at international drug trafficking, robbery and extortion, aiding and abetting prostitution.

How they fell on the trail of the network after the arrest of the Italian with 6 kg of heroin in Switzerland

The operation is the result of a detailed investigative activity launched in April 2020 by the Investigation Unit in Milan, following an international warrant from the arrest in flagrante delicto, in Switzerland, of an Italian, caught while transporting 6 kilograms of heroin by car.

The investigations, in cooperation with the Swiss judicial authority, have made it possible to unravel the structure and operation of two criminal organizations, in business with each other and headed by the same number of Albanian families.

Group with operational links in Albania, logistics base in the province of Milan and branches throughout Northern Italy, especially in the provinces of Monza Brianza and Bergamo. But also in Calabria and, obviously, in Switzerland.

Drugs heroin and cocaine were sold in the forest

According to the investigation, the system of importing and selling heroin and cocaine fed a dense drug network in Italian and Swiss territory on a daily basis, mainly made up of 'groups' of traffickers of North African origin, who retailed drugs in the forest . and agricultural areas. During the investigations, numerous episodes of drug arrest, transport and delivery were reconstructed in various provinces of Northern Italy (Bergamo, Monza and Brianza, Turin and Verona).

42 kilograms of narcotics were seized, including heroin, cocaine and hashish and 40 kilograms of cutting materials, as well as 2 illegally prohibited weapons and the sum of 13 thousand euros in cash. Also identified was an apartment and a warehouse used as a drug refinery, as well as several apartments and garages used to store drug shipments.

Exploitation of girls for prostitution

According to the investigators, some members of the organizations at the center of the investigation managed a system of exploiting the prostitution of girls from the East in a stable and organized manner. Women coerced with threats and violence, which also resulted in episodes of robbery and extortion, were made available on online dating sites and prostituted in apartments managed by the suspects themselves. A way to supplement and reinvest the income derived from drug trafficking.
