The Special Court has sentenced a total of 25 police officers from the border point of Morina to 47 years in prison. It is about an event that happened in April of the previous year. 32 officials were arrested, as they were accused of taking bribes for crossing at this border point.
The court gave sentences from 1 year to 2 years of imprisonment for the 25 defendants for the criminal offenses of exerting illegal influence on persons exercising public functions and passive corruption. Meanwhile, 7 others were declared innocent.
But despite the sentences given, none of the 25 people convicted will stay in prison, as they have benefited from reduced trial and arrest time.
The operatives were arrested in April 2022 and according to SPAK, the 1-year investigation documented 312 cases of corrupt actions committed by them at the border point of Morina.
In the disclosed cases, it turned out that the police favored different people for the introduction of contraband goods, people who trafficked vehicles, other illegal items, as well as helping people with legal problems and lack of documents to cross the border.
