Apartment turned into call center, 37-year-old arrested and 5 operators

A 37-year-old man has been arrested by police in the capital after being accused of defrauding foreign citizens through a call center about investments in fictitious stock exchanges. 

The police explain that they have continued the investigation into 5 people who worked as operators. 

It is learned that a 37-year-old man has been declared wanted who had rented the apartment where the illegal activity was carried out. 

"After 2 months of investigations using proactive methods, the police operation codenamed "Location 2" is finalized."

An apartment adapted as a call center is discovered, where foreign citizens were deceived, over the phone, into investing in fictitious stock exchanges.

The organizer of this activity is arrested and 5 other citizens, who were caught red-handed in the apartment during the police intervention, are being processed at large.

The 37-year-old man who had rented the apartment for this purpose is wanted.

Computer equipment, cell phones, and other material evidence are seized.

As a result of investigations conducted over two months, under the direction of the Prosecution, specialists from the Economic and Financial Crimes Investigation Section, in cooperation with the Tirana DVP Operational Force, have finalized the police operation codenamed “Location 2”. As a result of this operation:

– citizen L. Xh., 37 years old, was arrested in flagrante delicto;
– citizen RM, 37 years old, was declared wanted;
– criminal proceedings were initiated against citizens DO, 19 years old, JB, 20 years old, RL, 26 years old, JD, 24 years old and EN, 34 years old.

During the operation, the Police services intervened in the apartment on "Panorama" street, which had been adapted as a call center, where they caught citizen L. Xh. and 5 operators red-handed, who were deceiving foreign citizens into investing in fictitious stock exchanges.

Investigations revealed that the apartment had been rented by a Macedonian citizen with the intention of using it for this illegal activity. Work is ongoing to apprehend this citizen.

"The procedural materials were passed to the Prosecutor's Office for further action," the police announced.
